Unai Emery - Ex-Arsenal Manager

Think he'll do fairly well, but apparently they have a budget of only 50m? Can't do anything with that. If they don't sell anyone, then a team of:

Cech
Bellerin Mustafi Koscielny Kolasinac
Mkhitaryan Ramsey Xhaka Ozil
Aubameyang Lacazette
It's not the worst thing in the world, but center backs are beyond unreliable, and the midfield is really poorly balanced. Even the attack. Lacazette, Miki and Ozil are good players and Auba is quality, but it's very top heavy. Put it 4-4-2 because not sure how they'll fit them all in so it's basically just putting names down. I'm sure Emery would love to just do a complete re-shuffle with the midfielders and defenders, but only 50m and the same problems will appear. Good attack, shit defence.

Good appointment imo. Arsenal are in a position where they didn't need to go for the highest-profile name but have still landed a capable manager with experience at European level.

I particularly liked the way his Seville team played. Good in possession but measured in attack. Arsenal's gung-ho attackers will have to adapt initially but that team does need to get better in defensive transitions.

Overall, Emery should improve Arsenal's top four chances. Not to mention, Europa league success.

I believe he was highly thought of before he went to PSG (where his target was to win the CL which is never easy for anyone).

Language barrier would slightly concern me if I were an Arsenal fan.

I think that Arsenal squad needs more work than what their rumoured transfer budget is said to be, but if he’s given time I think he’ll do well.

Much better than appointing Arteta.

I think pretty much this is in a nutshell. With Wenger even top four was out of the question but hopefully we can try and get there next season. I can finally start a year without doom and gloom because of Wenger.

Not a bad appointment at all. Much better than hiring Arteta without a doubt.

Aye, Emery is a good cup manager but a bit shit with league campaigns...?

Think this is a very interesting decision. Thought very highly of Emery before he went to PSG and he was somewhat anonymous there. But on the other hand the only way to really convince was to win the CL and due to a lack of competition I think this was a very harsh expectation. W
In Arsenal, he will probably have greater support and appreciation of his work. Can imagine that he'll fit in quite well and create a tactically interesting team.

He was not available.
Don't know how I feel about that. I think with Arsenal's budget and 'offer' he probably wasn't available but I feel that United could offer any manager a shit load of cash, a good salary and a platform to be very successful, in turn making almost any manager 'available'.

Sounds like a poor man's LvG.
Biggest issue is with his mentality, I reckon. That Arsenal side are already accused of being pampered; that definitely won't change with him. Ozil will stop watching his videos after a week.

If you're a Gunner, you have to be happy with that. Emery is much better than Arteta for crying out loud.

Won't matter when he has £50m to spend, but still. Emery is a good manager. We'll see hw he does.

Not sure about Europa League. Sevilla have always maintained it's not the manager who's the most important staff member there, they have an extensive backroom staff who were also responsible for the likes of Juande Ramos picking up Europa leagues with them. They weren't too bothered when he left for PSG.

Such a strange appointment, he will raise their floor but don't think that his ceiling is very high at all.

Managed to lose a league title with PSG last season. Stomped it this season after taking their rivals best player and the rest of that team was gutted. Oh and after he got Neymar for 200m.

Emery is about as good as they could have got in the current state. The trendy managers are a gamble and Emery has won stuff and managed a major European club. I'd be relieved if I were an Arsenal fan.

Any idea how are the gunners reacting.. Surely some people would be sad that it is not Arteta, who has got all the knowledge from St Pep

You're right, he would not have been the name that we thought when Wenger left. But let's see how he does, the good thing is if he's doing shitte we can sack him and unlike with Wenger we won't be held to hostage.

It seems an appointment that has been made purely because he is there and out of work, it certainly doesn't point to a well thought out succession plan post Wenger, but he is in a much stronger position compared with when we messed up with Moyes, most Arsenal fans wanted Wenger out so will really get behind Emery, and it will be difficult for him to do much worse than Wenger has recently, so he really stands a chance of making a good go of it, like I say I hope it works, rather Arsenal in the top 4 again than Liverpool.

Good manager that was never gonna make it at PSG because of the 'superstars'. They didn't respect him.

Brazilian box midfield?

Perfect hire for an europa league side imo.

Might even get some CL group stage experience f they win it in a few years.
