Miliband did very well there, I think.

Genuinely seemed to get a bit wound up and it worked for him.

Now for the arm wrestling.

Ed came off well there, genuine. While Cameron answered the questions better as a politician.

Haven't watched, but by the looks of the replies in here it seems fair to say no-one's going to have been persuaded to change their vote?

Did it really though?
It kind of did at one point but he turned it round at the end tbf, but Paxo's cuntiness being personal will probably score for Ed as well in all honesty.

That was pretty brutal, almost looked like was on the verge of tears there.

He beat Cameron. Miliband's questions were personal and answered them well. Paxman hardly grilled him on his answers as they were answered well. Early in the interview Paxman had him rattled

Cameron the better politician, Ed arguably more human.

I don't know about changing votes, but like most left-leaning people, I haven't been that convinced by Ed Milliband so far, but he did come across better than I expected him to tonight, so points to him.

Oh yes, he would.

He knew exactly what he was doing there, very unprofessional

Ed quickly getting in the "Yeah, you?" was good for him too.

Miliband had to be as nasty as he could back

Thought the the line of questioning to Milliband was totally unreasonable tbh. Just wish he'd have actually challenged them on it and just said the uk will vote on the policies right for them not on party leaders siblings or eating techniques.

Its why the Tory's didn't want a head-to-head debate as they couldn't make those 'character' points without looking like cnuts

Think I finally saw why Cameron has been chickening out on a direct debate with Miliband - it was something I could never work out before. Cameron really doesn't have any answers and is relying on his mates in the media to help him out.

First responses:

(Telegraph): SILLY MILI WETS HIMSELF

(Guardian): ED STUFFS PAXO

Christ BBC1 have just declared Milliband won. I'm not sure I know what's going on any more. (or previously)
I think he did. You have to judge these things in the context and Ed was starting from lower expectations. It looks a better night for him than Cameron.

Thought Ed recovered relatively well after a shaky first few minutes. Seemed suitably steady and strong towards the end.

BBC are labour personified so no surprise really.
The Economist says Ed won too: "First TV duel of British election campaign over. Verdict: passionate Ed Miliband bested tetchy David Cameron. Full details on @EconBritain."

The Economist can hardly be described as left leaning...

You would have to be an one-eyed Cameron lover to think he did better than Miliband tonight. The question really is how well did Miliband really do..
