So the question in Scotland now is if SNP will get 58 or 59 seats.

Yeah. In the whole of Merseyside Labour are usually pretty safe but Wirral South and West were either Conservative or just a few votes between Con and Labour in 2010 so don't know how they'll go.
At this stage, any seats that Labour win or hold is a bonus.

I have just seen that a Labour/SNP coalition is at 33/1, Decent value that.

News out of Brighton - Both the Greens and the Tories expected to hold onto their seats.

Though i've criticised Lucas with regard to her views on prostitution, i did vote Green today so...Yay! :o

But they are not a country (in the proper sense of the word). They are a region of Britain like Bavaria is a region of Germany, or Andalusia a region of Spain.

If every region/nation-within-a-nation behaved like Scotland, the stable structure of the nation state would break down and we might as well go back to living as tribal states. It's fecking outrageous the more I think about it. If Scotland goes independent, what happens if Shetland decides that it is a distinct region and wants independence from Scotland? Where does it end?

The nation state is the most stable unit of world politics, and it should not be fecked around with lightly. Just to put it into some historical context, there has never been a region that has broken away from a nation state/country in modern history that has not done so in the context of war, genocide or severe oppression.
Perhaps you are right but the big issue will be whether the people living in scotland will feel like that. I am of pakistani origin and have zero connection to historical scotland and yet I feel this country has been hard done by with this election and it deserves to be led by the SNP if its true about how many constituencies they have won. I'm sure that a lot more people here will feel more comfortable with Sturgeon compared to Cameron considering their backgrounds.

Who still up has work in the morning?

Not going to be a fun day...

Yup up at 6.30 for a long day of meetings. Don't know why ive done this to myself now I'm just angry.

Fingers crossed I don't wake up to a Conservative majority otherwise ill end up punching someone

Feck me this is depressing.

Talk of Sturgeon saying to a Diplomat that the SNP secretly want a Conservative Majority as it will ensure a referendum after the 2016 Scottish Elections. With a Tory Government the vote could easily be yes for independence then where does that leave the rest of us? Labour will be dead and buried without Scottish votes (as proven tonight)
No where really. It could a good few years(8+) until we see another party on left(Or even with left ideas) with any chance on winning/having a voice in parliament. England is clearly now a country on the Right of Politics.

Tory majority is coming, they're actually taking seats from Labour now. Absolute bloodbath.

It's pretty sad but England have themselves to blame. I wanted nothing to do with independence and voted no...while convincing so many others to vote no because of how we are part of a great Union who look after eachother....tonight it doesn't feel like it anymore.

It'll be too good to be true to take the Tory seat off them. Surely...
That would be a hell of a turnaround after years of smugness about the Tories not having much of a presence in Scotland, if they survived there while all of Labour get wiped-out in Scotland.

In Warwick, Labour fails to overhaul a Tory majority of just 54.

Can we please donate a Scottish constituency to Labour?

The backlash from the right begins.

WTF? Don't you think the real issue should be that seats in England are lost simply because a party based exclusively in Scotland wants "a stronger voice for Scotland?".

I've no doubt in my mind that's why it's the Tory landslide it is and I think it's shameful.

I guess it boils down to what "stronger voice " actually means and I have had this discussion over and over. When you say stronger voice what do you mean? Stronger than the six million people who live in Yorkshire approx the same population as live in Scotland. What right would those six million people in Scotland have to a stronger voice in the union they just voted to stay in than the six million people who live in Yorkshire?

This is the reason you get what we have today. Talking up Independence and then voting against it, then voting SNP while stating over and over again that this will advantage Scotland over England. You get what you sow in the end, a Tory Govt.

England is the one that's voted for a Tory govt and nobody else. Look a little closer to home for the blame.

Murphy is a good speaker. Think I'll bow out for the evening on that calming Scottish accent. Lets all feel sorry for ourselves tomorrow.

Is it wrong that I'm annoyed that a 20 year old is an MP in Scotland. I mean like what do you know?!

It's ok, I can emigrate to Scotland. Always fancied it, and have a mate in Tobermory on the Isle of Mull who says the fishing is amazing. Make a nice change people moving from Devon to Scotland and not vice versa.

The New Statesman apparently saying Miliband will resign in the morning.
