UEFA Champions League Round of 16 - 4/3/25 - 12/3/25

So strong defensively they allowed them to have like 30 shots? 9 on target? Yeah, that doesn't make sense. That suckerpunch counter goal however.... PSG's mentality might not be able to cope with it.
PSG didn't really look that threatening in the second half and most of their shots were from outside the box.

They should have scoreona couple first half, true, but I feel Liverpool are too good defensively to for PSG to overturn the result.

1st half
Shots on Goal PSG 12 Liverpool 1
Shots on target PSG 5 Liverpool 0
Passes PSG 321 Liverpool 151

2nd half
Shots on Goal PSG 15 Liverpool 1
Shots on target PSG 5 Liverpool 1
Passes PSG 373 Liverpool 144

Szczesny had a game that wasn't in his destiny not long ago, what a way to come back to play and enjoy such a great CL night, he must be in Cloud nine right now

PSG done dirty with the no red card. Hats off to them, they look much better without Mbappe, Neymar and Messi. They actually play like a team offensively and defensively.

I think if they had a real striker, possibly could have scored.

What about Dembele first half walking through them!!!

Side note, I wonder when will come the day that many fans stop thinking that the pace in EPL it's such A THING

If they both make it through, Barca would definitely beat Liverpool imo. They're a lot more clinical.
Yeah you're probably right. Top 3 in Spain look really strong this year. Much stronger than Liverpool and Arsenal in my view.

Yet at the moment those two were actually on fire carrying PSG, the Vitinha, Dembele, Ruiz, Verrati, etc...and even more prone to blunders Donarumma looked like distant cousins from the current versions of those playing today and lately, Football fluctuates, what was mainly wrong in those days, was the whole Galactico thing without actually having a proper coach in charge and a proper team playing as such.

Intensity.

Indeed, there is more intensity in ocassions, yet it's never as big as an issue as many fans think it is. It's just plain diff, there are way more important things that happens to any player to not be in his best form than the main characteristic of any League.

Too many top teams don't have quality strikers.

Unbelievable.

There’s no disagreement that those 2 were good offensively but their defensive work rate wasn’t that good. Unfortunately bigger teams punish you for that.

Abit like Salah in the first half, he left TAA dry numerous times jogging back.

Alisson 100% saves that Eliott goal. That's the difference right there.

But, if Pool plays like that again at Anfield, I would still fancy PSG to batter them.

You see I don't think a player has a good season who isn't a starter. These numbers are fine for a young talent who is establishing himself, but not for a player in his prime years.
We were discussing the goal scoring specifically. Also he’s making an impact consistently off the bench, and not starting ahead of Griezmann and Alvarez should not mean that he automatically cannot have a good season even if he isn’t young.

It wasn't just defensivly, that made blunders for fun. For real Vitinha wasn't this version at all, Verratti after his last injury in those days returned like some sort of stunt double, it all fell like a fecking Domino, they almost didn't win the League Title. Yet thoee two were really great to watch together.

And for real I would never get how with such a project they went for Pochettino and Galthier with those 3 heavy hitters. Very bad managing

Only just seen the red card incident. It's a clear shove in the back, it's inside the area and so it's a penalty and a red card because no attempt to play the ball.

Incompetence or corruption are the only options to explain it.

And don't get me started on that micro offside, which I know is technically offside, but crikey how lucky can you get when you see the goal that's scored

He looked so pissed when Palinha missed that open goal

Decent performance from Bayern, comfortable win but I think it was more Leverkusen being really bad than Bayern being great.
And rightfully so. That would have been the assist of the season so far for Musiala.

I think "decent" is downplaying Bayerns performance a bit.
We adjusted to Leverkusens insane pressing by playing WAY more diagonal long balls and we won the majority of second balls because we were more aggressive.
And against the ball our counterpressing and tackles were really good. Kimmich almost man marked Wirtz when he was in the center.
So i would say that the tactics and the mentality were spot on today.

The only good chance for Leverkusen was due to a mistake of Upamacano. Other than that they didnt have a single good chance.
Using your opponents mistake is also a sign of quality. And if Tapsoba doesnt hold Kane like that before the penalty he probably has a good chance to score after the corner.

Yeah, Leverkusen looked bad. But i think it was because we made them look bad. Just as it was the other way around in the league game 2,5 weeks ago.
Match luck was on our side today, i give you that, but that is also only fair after our game in the DFB Pokal.

Until now Kompany and Bayern were always criticized that they didnt win a big game convincingly so far.
So now that they have done it i would say credit where credit's due.

The only thing I’m clinging on to is I think PSG will knock them out at Anfield. It’s a) impossible for Alisson to have another game like that IMO and b) impossible for VAR to keep digging Liverpool out. PSG surprised me and are a very good side now.

That was a smash and grab to be sure. Allison and the subs by Slot won that. Immediate impacts including Endo who is just so professional. He’s our Didi Hamann. Funny bit was Beckham face looking a little dour at the result.

Congratulations Liverpool. Always love to see these oil clubs getting eliminated.
Great PSG losing at home, City already out, Chelsea playing in European wilderness.
Thank you. Nice when the good guys win for once. Good luck the rest of the way

What a performance by Alisson, it feels like the goalkeeper is so essential in the CL as much or more than any other tournament. Real Madrid have won a few CLs because of Courtois. You see Alisson today and if you swap the keepers then maybe it’s 3-0 PSG. Neuer in 2020 and then you have all the goalkeeper mistakes that changed games, Neuer himself last year, then Karius, Ulreich etc. With a better keeper than Ederson, City might have more than one CL too.

But also PSG were equally good at times in Mbappé’s time, I remember them battering Real Madrid for 3 halfs of a tie and end up conceding 3 in one half to Benzema and going out. Then you have the brilliance of the 4-0 against Barca, one of their greatest nights in the CL, then end up going out with a 6-1 defeat at Camp Nou… it looked good but tonight was also in some ways nothing new for PSG, they just don’t have it in the big moments and are likely going out again.

Liverpool got lucky, but not as much as one would think, you look at someone like Dembele, he has consistently been a poor finisher throughout his career, same as vs Liverpool, nothing new, really.

Very frustrating player. Particularly because he has SO MUCH ABILITY!!!

shame for allisson as that was an amazing performance; but i guess the media will only be taking about the konate non-red and how embarrassingly shite liverpool were.

didn’t watch the post-game guff, but i’d imagine slot was also close to tears and resigning, after admitting they played like plymouth and united.

If Dembele could finish he would be top 3 player. His final pass and finish is like Vini in his first two seasons. Luckily Vini got much better.

Also PSG is 100% out. During your good period you need to take advantage of chances. Luck and lack of proper finish cost them.

If the redcard decision was against Liverpool you would hear about it for years. They are still crying about Salah getting injured.

No worries we will finish Liverpool and make them cry again.

We are counting on you! Hala Madrid!

A 0-0 draw actually would have been a better result for Liverpool. The joy of scoring a last min winner after getting battered, seemed to me that they thought they had won the tie. The celebrations were well over the top and it may come back to haunt them.
