UCL Round of 16 - First Legs - Feb 18 - 26

Barca doing their best to make City look more impressive than they are. But Silva is by far the best player on the pitch today.

It's the same as the Pepe-Alves red card from the 2011 semi-finals. It looked like clear contact to the referee but they once again got a crucial decision in their favour.

Just like this one - a penalty that resulted in an away against Manchester City.
What's with all the Barca conspiracy?

I thought TV companies are the ones in charge of broadcasting the games, rather than UEFA controlling everything and tv channels just having a feed.

Maybe, I just assumed the graphics etc were done by UEFA along with the camera shots but wouldn't surprise me I guess.

City got lucky there

Barca would even be happy with a 1-1 here. It's going to be incredibly tough for city in the second leg. I guess this will really make City the premiership favourites.

Yeah but that's just the way it goes, and I don't think it's because they're Barcelona, if it'd been the other way round I think you'd have seen a City penalty.

That goal also wasn't offside...

As Tyldesley just eluded to - if that was a dodgy penalty, Barca just made up for it with a perfectly legal goal.

Looked onside, but for some reason they only showed one quick replay.

To be fair that argument is looking increasingly worthless, as even in second place they're 16 points behind Bayern (in February, just pause for a moment and consider how awful that is for the Bundesliga). But they're in front of Dortmund which many would still consider a strong opponent. Perhaps they're just garbage in the big games. Let the jokes about the games against United not being big games begin... :(

We sure as hell were not one in the last two months of the last year, which was the time Leverkusen pulled ahead. Granted, we hit a major injury crisis, not so much in total numbers, but in concentration. There were games, when we could not play any first choice player in either the back four or CM. Other games, we had 4 injured CB and 3 injured FB at the same time. Meanwhile Leverkusen had the biggest luck in terms of injuries among the top 6 of the table, which can be a massive factor in a league competition. They lost one offensive player for some time and it already showed in their form. Since the winter break we already made up 5 points on them, eventhough we still can only play around half of our best possible starting XI. The injuries are way more balanced now, though.

Still, the biggest factor in the pathethic display against Paris right now is a deep rooted mentality problem of the club in terms of the International stage. To put it simply, they have no big winning mentality and are scared to their bones when they face a big international club. This has been there for years now, eventhough they had several coaches in that time frame. It is like it is in their blood.

Barcelona have been poor this 2nd half. In the past they would have torn apart a team with 10 men. They will win the tie but they won't reach the final unless they play us in the semi final.
