U21s Semi-finals: Liverpool vs United @ Anfield

Half Time.. Pretty even game, Liverpool got into the game as it wore on.. Pereira was pretty anonymous till that goal.

These are all constructive criticisms, don't be so defensive.

He just needs to work on helping the the team a bit more defensively.

It's not constructive criticisms when it's untrue. You seem to have made judgements of players by watching this first half. This season Wilson's workrate have improved along with his ability to play deep.

How would you know I have not watched Wilson/Pearson? I have watched them through under-18s. Yes they have improved, but they can also improve even more in order to play in the PL. Did you see me criticise his ability to drop deep? Don't put words in my mouth.

Yep, is there anyone who played in last year's final in this team?

Here is our team in the final against Spurs(Last season)

Amos, Vermijl, Keane, Thorpe, James, Lingard, Pearson, Tunnicliffe, Ekangamene, Cole, Januzaj.

So only Amos, James, Pearson and Charni.

That's what happens when people get promoted too quickly.

I'll be scared to see him when fit, then.

Not every striker is great at closing down, but I agree he should improve his endurance as much as possible.
How do you mean? He was fit for the majority of the season. He sees to tire ALOT in the last 70min of matches. Maybe he is young or maybe he needs to improve his endurance.

Well no he doesnt. He does it as good as any of our first team strikers. Possibly better

Pereira also came on as a sub in that game.

Yes, but Pearson should hardly count it was his first or second start for the U21s and he went off for Lawrence when we were losing after making no impact, and Lawrence turned the game.

But yeah, James wasn't a regular starter either, just Charni and Amos.

I was just about to criticise Pereira before the goal. Reminds me of Pogba sometimes although Pogba dominated matches at reserve/youth level which Pereira never does.

I thought you were saying he hasn't been fit all season, you must have been saying he's failed to close down well all season.

I have no opinion, haven't really noticed one way or the other and missed half the games.

Pereira looks like hell of a prospect from the two games (well, this being the second) I've seen him. Can anyone else who has seen him more regularly give a better opinion? Does he have a chance of first team football next season?

I don't want this to become an argument.

But, how is being promoted got to do with knowledge about under-18/21s? Where is the logic in that? Stupid comment.

I missed Scholes's reaction which you all seemed to have enjoyed. Any chance of gif for that? BT river is not showing it in highlight. It is just Mcmanaman and Hargreaves blabbering something in incomprehensible accent.

Wilson is good closing down, its resulted in him getting chances several times this season. Like you know, tonight

He rubbed his face as if he'd just been sleeping and was trying to revive himself....and failing.

Nope. He's capable of creating something special but he's far too inconsistent/invisible. Comparisons with Adnan are wide off the mark as last year Adnan bossed the best U21 team in the league whilst playing in an unfamiliar position.

I'd put the likes of Wilson, Rothwell, Janko, Varela above in terms of getting first team football next season.

You understand that he's not 100% fit yet you're still suggesting he should be closing people down quicker/contributing more defensively? The reason he isn't is probably because he isn't fully fit. It isn't rocket science.

Problem is, he produces these moments of magic but overall his contribution is sometimes disappointing. I will have many other players in queue above him to get in first team.

Not sure I'll sway you since I'm newly promoted as well but his point on Pearson is undoubtedly valid. He's pretty much a guaranteed yellow in a very leniently refereed league as well as picking up perhaps the most petulant red card I've ever seen in the UEFA youth league. He definitely needs to improve his temperament. Don't agree about wilson though.

I wouldn't think so. He is a year younger than most out there so he still has time. The main criticism of him is inconsistency and drifting through matches. Like today I don't think he did much before his goal. He'll pop up with moments of magic but other than the milk cup and odd match around the January period I haven't seen him really impose himself on a match. The likes of Wilson, Rothwell, Janko and Pearson have been more impressive imo.

Today, he has showed the same work rate as every single other match. The factor of him coming back from injury, is irrelevant. Maybe he had enough time to prepare and his injury was small.

Pereira :

Tries lots of creative stuff, a very small amount works
Tries lots of longshots, some of them end up in the top corner
Freekick specialist
Goes missing for spells
Doesn't keep the ball very well

I was just joking!
