Complete band Pert, complete. They had a rough edge to them early on, which i dont think is absolutely necessary, and eventually they calmed as the years grew. I loved 'all that you cant leave behind', such a work of art it was. One great tune after another, with a sense of calmness and journey about it.
I agree you cant tell everything about a person from the media and through TV/Radio, but you can tell enough to work out what kind of a person they are. And Paul Hewson (Bono) is obviously someone that simply cannot get enough attention. Yeah yeah its all very noble that you help people worse off then others, and i obviously have nothing against this, but why does he always need fecking credit for it? He is an arrogant Irishman who thinks he knows everything, yes paul, you are famous and rich, enjoy that and donate money to charity if you wish, but under no circumstances has your place in a rock band made you more able to understand or deal with world problems than the people who do that every day for a living.
Not to mention his goddamn sunglasses.
I will however give him credit, some of U2s older stuff is ok, and they are decent musicians, but getting together with Greenday was just the final straw. Greenday...they are another band that fecking irritate me...
Oh god. Cobain was a suicidal freak, axel rose wore shorts on stage and the rest were druggies/drunkards/gay. I like to keep the person and the music seperate. Cobain was a genius IMO and i have a special affinity for their music and him in particular, i dont care if he was a little loose in the head and couldnt deal with the world. Bono's doing something good so i notice it.
You're right artists personalities and their music are different things, but i do for some reason prefer humble people as opposed to cnuts that think they own the world.
And like i said at the bottom there, some of their older music is ok, im just not a fan.
Didnt Mohammad Ali think the world of himself? And u2 dont usually play themselves up if you hear their interviews, quite a modest lot. The frontmen are always a little crazy, Ozzy shat in elevator and bit a pigeons head off. I think even Jim Morrisson was a little mad. All of them had that little bit of insanity in their personalities, thats what i guess gave them that edge in terms of creative material. Bono thinks big of himself on stage, and thats fine, he has thousands in the crowd who love his music and the band, whats not to feel chuffed about.

U2 have been denounced for many years for many reasons e.g. religion, political stance and now for poverty /debt reduction.
Their music is sublime and stood the test of time! But like everything else, we all have different tastes and we are all entitled to our opinion. Believing a comedy sketch bears any truth to a recognised top guitarist (rated 24 of ALL time), is delusion!
Bono speaks from the heart and is steadfast in his beliefs. To my knowledge he has never used his wealth or audience to do anybody any harm. He promotes good acts and performs the same! I tend to attribute those qualities to a true man.
True men should not be denounced by smart arses who have to prove themselves to the world yet!
Give it a rest people, get off that band wagon!

I had the pleasure of seeing them live at Cardiff Arms Park in 1993. Absolutely awesome band. Much better live than recorded. I'd love to see them live again.
Here we go again, as I said last time, popularity isn't indicitive of ability. You think it's arrogance because I can see something that isn't good despite being popular, I think it's ignorance on your part, perhaps you have lead a sheltered musical journey through life.
No. But I don't dismiss stuff I don't like either.
It's far less narrow minded to be able to recognise talent in something you don't care for, than to just dismiss it as "talentless".
Saying that something isn't to your taste is one thing - claiming that it's no good when several million people are likely to disagree with you is sheer arrogance.
Talent itself might be varying - there are doubtless some people who have more talent than others. But whether you agree or not, there is a talent to standing on a stage, and holding an audience.
So you don't like something - that's your prerogative, but to label it as talentless because "you" don't like it? Sorry to break it to you, but your opinion isn't necessarily right.
I find it is those who have not seen them play who spout the most and loudest shite!
They tend to hunt in packs here, getting braver by the minute, whenever somebody agrees.

I love Nirvana as well.
Its very different music. U2 is my peace, its stuff i can listen to any time with songs like with or without you that get me, its all very complete, they put on a show through their music. Nirvana is all about the madness, the dark connection, Cobain did that, he had that in him, in his words, his voice.Good man.
