U2

I'm not just guessing

As a matter of fact I met Bono at a concert, and I've seen many of his interviews. He seems like such a fake character. Yes, he does donate money and make concerts for "Africa" but he still makes a lot more than he gives, and he does it in such a glittery manner.
I'm just disgusted by him, and it's a matter of opinion so I could, frankly, care less what you think

PS. I'm African, and I know a lot about what he does for African countries and his efforts on AIDS relief, so please don't question my knowledge. Hope this helps

:wenger:

Makes more than he gives? Name someone who gives more than they make.

The fact is he doesn't have to give anything.

He was kind enough to talk to a random 14 year-old man at a concert, yet you're disgusted by him?:)

I'm not a fan of U2's music(I even dislike it), but I have to say this: I would gladly live in a world where it is the Bonos you have to be disgusted by.

And, yes, he is probablya bit of a hypocrite, but who isnt?

Music Threads.

I'm off to do another music thread, which will no doubt contain someone calling me a cnut or the music I bring up being slammed as "fecking shit", and will almost certainly have Radiohead brought up in it for no reason.

And I was right then too.

You can't dismiss people as talentless just because you don't like them. It's the height of arrogance.

Talentless, to me, are the kind of saddos you see in the early rounds of The X Factor. But to dismiss anyone who has maintained success over several years is ridiculous.

Here we go again, as I said last time, popularity isn't indicitive of ability. You think it's arrogance because I can see something that isn't good despite being popular, I think it's ignorance on your part, perhaps you have lead a sheltered musical journey through life.

How Clever!

Who said Ability is the sign of greatness. Just because you are not naturally gifted at something does not mean you cannot tailor your skills to produce soimething for the mass market

So are the Spice Girls to be heralded as Greats now? They appealled to the mass market.

I am sure to the age group they were targeted at they were Greats.

From a Business prospective they went beyond greatness.

Why?

Because he campaigns against third world debt?

A very successfull business, but unfortunately for your argument that doesn't equate to musical greatness.

I am sure to the audience they targeted their music was great. Not my type but I am not worthy enough to run them into the ground.

Seemingly you are.

I'm at least worthy of an opinion on the subject, my years of musical listening have earned me that much, surely?

You do not earn an opinion you are entitled to an opinion in a Democratic world. Everyone is entitled to an opinion, but whether people listen to it is for another thread.

It is that you position your opinion over others on the basis of musical listening and pure ignorance of others is what is annoying about you.

Best live performance that I have seen.

Queen (Live Killers tour) , Eurythmics (at the Hacienda prior to Sweet Dreams charting), U2 (various smaller venues) and Pink Floyd (The Wall at Earls Court).

U2 definitely up there in best live performances I've seen. Not a major fan of them, but definitely respect how far they have come

If people don't like their music then that is fair enough. Everyone has an opinion. To dislike Bono and Geldof because they choose to do something good with their celebrity seems muddle minded at best.

U2 ,You and Rolling Stone Mag sux - omitting PF from that list is blasphemy

Why?

Because he campaigns against third world debt?
Yes the horrible man, how could he do that, bringing attention towards such unimportant topics :wenger:

Once again for the record, U2 are brilliant, a band thats been able to adapt through the years, i love their music from back then, love it now. And my choices are mainly classic rock. And who cares if the edge isnt as maybe gifted as slash and the others, he fits the band perfectly and it sounds excellent.

Every song by U2...I can listen to, and not get bored

They're a special band to me

fecking 'ell, didn't even notice Floyd were ommitted from that list.

Unbelievable pile of shit.

Actually, they don't seem to like the whole Prog-Rock scene at all looking at it.

The old stuff is great Spoons

New stuff, not so great, but I still like it
