Why does music make people so feckin' arrogant. People rate different stuff ffs.
There might be some crap acts around which are fair game, but established bands like U2 aren't crap, just because you don't like them.

I think People need to educate themselves on what Bono & Geldof actually achieved, while also read some of the U2 autobiographies in which the Bono you see in the media is not the bono you see in U2.

In a recent interview he said his biggest success was his wife and family. How many so called rock artists would be holed up over-dosed in drugs shagging all round them.

I think most people's main issue with Bono is his insistence on constantly wearing sunglasses that make him look like a fly. He's from Ireland for god's sake, he shouldn't even own a pair of sunglasses.

As a matter of fact I met Bono at a concert, and I've seen many of his interviews. He seems like such a fake character. Yes, he does donate money and make concerts for "Africa" but he still makes a lot more than he gives, and he does it in such a glittery manner.
I'm just disgusted by him, and it's a matter of opinion so I could, frankly, care less what you think

They recently moved their business base to Holland, because the government here capped the artists tax-free status to €250,000...or something small like that. By moving his tax affairs to Holland, to avoid paying more tax here, Bono is being hypocritical in asking the Irish government to give more in aid, which come from taxes, that he chooses not to pay.
Or so goes the argument....I think you have to look at scale. Bono is global, and aims for global change....a few million from his own pocket wouldn't really swing it one way or the other.....but he does come out of that one badly.
I think Bono plays the rock star character because it's the best way to keep him in the limelight....and when he's in the limelight, he highlights global issues, as he sees them. Of course it's fake, but there's a greater motive.
You should have put your "evidence" in your original post then. There's nowt more annoying than people who make claims without backing them up.
Although I don't agree with the comment you made about him making more than he gives - I doubt there's many around who would do it the other way around, but there's hell of a lot who give nothing at all.
And if he's high profile and glittery, so what - it probably raises the profile more that way.

Like many bands huge bands I think some people like to hate them to appear edgy. The same people who were soiling their pants at Coldplay - parachutes are often the ones who now pretend to really hate them not what they are bigger than the Beatles. They have been repetitive but to go from love to hate because you want to impress people is stupid.
And criticising The Edge for his guitar playing is stupid. There are a huge number of far more technically gifted musicians out there. So why haven't they been making such good music for the past 30 years (Ok only 1 really good album since Achtung Baby but the point remains).
Everyone has their own opinions about music - fair enough. But most of this U2 hate is just tall poppy syndrome. I mean, if you disliked music because you thought the singer was a knob then The Rolling Stones and Robbie Williams would have sold 4 records between them.

Agreed. There are degrees of talent. James Blunt and to a much greater degreee Robbie Fecking Williams set my teeth on edge but in musical terms have a million times more talent than, say, me.
