U15s: KDB Cup (1-2 June)

Really like the look of Douka Nkoto. Has really stood out for me in these first minutes and certainly seems like he's really mature for his age. Keeps it simple and tidy when necessary and breaks up play really nicely.
Thought the same. He has an eye for a between the lines pass too.

Based on the little I’ve seen from other teams, Barcelona are technically above everyone else in the tournament. Not surprising of course, they always are. Wouldn’t be shocked if they win it again. PSV also looked very good against Chelsea.

I’m pleased with the overall level of comfort on the ball that all of the United players showed in that first game. Held it under pressure and there was some nice interplay.

Yeah Barca always impress on the ball even at these ages. This kind of competition for the lads can only help them in the long run.

Veo haven't exactly done a great job of promoting themselves, have they? Stream quality is awful.

Shah is naturally a midfielder, I really liked him there at the GA Cup. Camacho I'm not sure.

Yeah I think he played at midfield in Hong Kong too, if I’m not mistaken.

Think I read somewhere that Camacho played there at City.

Just wondering about our full-back situation in this age group.

Started really well, but it’s been shite in the most recent matches. Too bad as the set-up has been nice and the tournament website actually updates the scores in real time too.

Noisy neighbours on top in every way. We’ve been pretty poor after the first half of the first game.

2-0 City, well deserved.

I thought we looked physically strong in the first match but perhaps it was just the opponent being even weaker. We’re losing all key duels.

Very athletic as well as technically and tactically talented City side, in fairness.

No shame in losing to them

Yeap. They’re not even the tallest players on the pitch against Man City.

The funny thing about the Nkoto 'situation' is that City quite recently went and signed a 13-year-old Cameroonian from the same club as the twins. He's at the tournament but injured.

Aye but that’s fine. You see they’re not known for breaking any rules.

Saw first half of the brugge match
Saw second half and the goals vs City.

Had some big problems defending against balls in behind. First Watson, who looks decent on the ball, looked very slow and let the striker past him too easily as well. Second in behind the leftback and then a ball into the box where the attacker was able to hold off the challenge and fire home.

Douka has a good mix of technical ability and a bit of strength but decision making needs a bit of work. Bassirou looked stronger but slower and a bit less agile.

Jaedon Donker had a good half against Brugge. Speed and willingness to run at players and some dribbling skills. His finishing was weak for a few efforts but then he had a great effort from outside the box that he bent onto the crossbar. Best shot of the half by a mile. Of the players I didnt already have the names of he was most impressive

As I said earlier Watson looked good with his distribution on the ball as well. Speed and strength were exposed against City.

Thought Scanlon was quieter than both Douka and Bassirou in the middle, defensively and on the ball but great first touch and finish for his goal.

Shame that Rooney picked up an injury during the first game as without him we lack an out and out #9. Edson DeJonge-Seiros and a couple others also missing from the squad.

If Rooney can't play tomorrow I hope we give Silva a chance from the start in at least one of the games.

Semi-finals:

Palmeiras vs Gent
Man City vs Genk

United, Leipzig, Barca and PSV will play in the 5-8 playoffs.

Nothing suspicious about his age I’m presuming.

Barca take the lead after five minutes. United have been very good so far. Moving the ball quicker etc.

As has been mentioned by other posters, we’re really missing a no.9.

We’re playing well but struggling in the final third as there’s no player on the pitch that naturally makes runs behind the defense or can hold the ball up.

Our boys hold on to the ball for too long.

Yeah it’s been the case the entire tournament. I think we started well and kept moving the ball and made the opponent chase it, but as the game went on we started losing the ball. Barca playing the way they do kind of highlights it too.

Yes the contrast with Barca is glaring. I think it is a matter of coaching.

Technical ability too, Barca are quite unique in that regard. We’re doing pretty well playing out from the back but keep losing the ball in midfield.

United get one back, Bassirou Nkoto with a nice back post header. His initial pass to Walker was the key.

FT 1-2

Looks like we’ll play RB Leipzig for the 7th place. Kickoff 12:00 BST. Stream here.

We improved from yesterday, in my opinion, but struggled to create anything.

JJ especially has struggled so far compared to the others. Is he playing an age group up?

Two in fact, he's 13. Well United's team is mainly U14 but the competition is U15.

But yeah I think this tournament has showed he still has a long way to go before making a claim for the U18s. These games are important for his development as both himself and the staff see where he needs to improve.
