U15s: KDB Cup (1-2 June)

How is JJ faring so far? I read he is to be the next star of academy.

We have spent the entire 2nd half playing ourselves into trouble. Rooney with a typical Rooney tackle.

A very good first half but we’ve struggled under the press after the break.

FT 1-0, through to the quarters.

United 3
Club Brügge 2
Palmeiras 1

vs Palmeiras 13:30 BST.

Never watched this young an age group before, striking how insistent on the reaction coaches are more than what choices are made with the ball. Every time someone makes a pass the shout of 'what next' goes out.

Jake Ford

Jariyah Shah (2) - Gazi Ibragimov (4) - Jacob Watson (12) - Jaume Camacho (3)

Luca Scanlon (8) - Douka Nkoto (6) - Bassirou Nkoto (10)

Jaedon Donkor (7) - Kai Rooney (9) - JJ Gabriel (11)

I think that's it
Missed this, will try and watch the second group game… how did we do?

Bold lad is Amir Ibragimovs‘ brother (the apparent wonder kid, only seen video clips)?

Bit amusing that three out of starting xi has their brothers in United youth system already plus the Nkoto brothers. It really is sibling FC.

Four. Ibragimov, Scanlon, Camacho & Rooney.

Nice to see Osuchukwu(?) in goal.

JJ, B.Nkoto & Rooney on the bench. Kai was limping with his right foot.

13 is Darlington Osuchukwu
18 is Louis Kibbalya
15 is Jodie Naganga
16 is Alfie Walker

Didn’t get to the ball much in the first game. He’s a talented boy but I don’t think it helps anyone to hype a 13-year old kid that much.

Osuchukwu fit enough to continue after a heavy collision with a Palmeiras player.

I remember the times when UK commentators struggled with the names of imports - now they even struggle with the names of England Youth internationals :)

Yeah he’s been good. Like with a lot of the players at this level the next thing is to learn when to dribble and when to move the ball.

Completely, but people need to remember that these are children who, while obviously football is a focus otherwise wouldn't be in an academy, have other focuses and are growing rapidly so it's harsh to be too critical (not saying you are being!)

I agree. And the decision-making will come later. Ball control and dribbling are the more natural things you learn while playing youth football.

Nkoto brother were the same players on whose ages BigSid threw a massive hissy fit on right?

My stream has stopped just before the second half started, but apparently Palmeiras have scored.

FT 1-0

Deserved win for Palmeiras. The stream was lagging for most of the second half, but I did not see us have one touch in their box.

Anyway I think we’ve finished second in the group and play in the quarter-finals later today.

Man City have won the Group A regardless of what happens in the shootout against RB Leipzig.

Manchester derby in the quarter-finals. Kickoff 15:30 BST, stream.
I woke up today thinking how much different it felt to last Saturday - when I didn't give us a hope in hell of winning the FA Cup!

And now, here we are, with another Manchester Derby kicking off at nearly the same time! Not quite so different after all. :)

A lot less nerve wracking of course, but hopefully we can get the same outcome.

We beat them earlier this season in the Albert Phelan Cup, hope we do it again.

The other three quarter-finals are:

Barcelona vs KRC Genk
PSV vs KAA Gent
Palmeiras vs RB Leipzig

Anderlecht, Club Brügge, Rangers and Chelsea knocked out at group stage.
