Kroos as the only midfield signing just wouldn't be enough. We need at least two.

I think we need 1CB, 1LB, 2CM and a LW...A RW would be a bonus, but to be fair, I want to see Januzaj as much as possible next season

We need to sign two top quality centre mids who will compliment each other and be our first choice midfield with Carrick as backup and we should then buy a 21 or younger midfielder with high potential so we can start planning for the future.

I can see Shaw joining us. Kroos was looking good until LvG came into the picture, almost zero chance of it happening now. As for Reus, I don't see him leaving this Summer.

Kroos is still top priority along with Shaw in my opinion, the media have just turned their attention on Muller/Reus. That does not mean are not working on their transfers.

Hopefully Woody will get Shaw before the world cup and the internationals after the world cup.

If we were to take a punt on someone I'd rather it be Barkley than Ribeiro, personally.

It would be a very expensive punt

What he said :).

Plus, it would hardly be a punt would it? He looks like a quality player already. Ribeiro would be a relatively cheap signing (I guess) and could be a bargain buy perhaps if it worked out, and not too much of a loss if it didn't.

What happened to the Brazilian kid?? Can't remember his name but he is a big United fan at the academy which is part owned by United?

Bruno Gomes, signed with Internacional.

Don't think Kroos will want to join with LvG at the helm due to their past history. It was a long time ago so maybe things have changed, but I doubt it.

Mirror Football article that isn't written by Steve Bates can be discarded as bullshit. Hummels is even more unlikely than Reus, and Reus is already pretty much 0%.

Oh ffs, now we're being linked to Hummels. This is going to be the transfer muppet's summer of hell, isn't it.
The Times are reporting it as well that Van Gaal wants Reus and Hummels and that Meulensteen might be coming back. Does Woodward do any work or does he spend all his time taking members of the press out for meals and giving them unrealistically positive stories to write?

EDIT: That Mirror article is 2 weeks old. It is in tomorrow's Times though.

If we signed Kroos, Shaw & Reus I would be happy with no other new signings. Even though I feel we would still need another CB & another CM.

His departure is expected, though I thought he was going back to France. Oh well, I guess Inter have offered him a 3 year deal as well. Can't really reject that one last big contract in a decent league when you're over 30 years old.

I think whilst we obviously need more than one top quality centre mid to compete long term, they don't need to all be bought during one window. If we only signed one but also got someone of Reus' ilk and Shaw, we'd be hugely improved in each of our weakest areas as well as having a quality manager than can get the best out of what was already at our disposal. I could certainly wait another year for the second centre mid if those three came in. Maybe throw in a squad option as well for the middle if depth was a concern.

Would 2 CMs this window and Reus next year make more sense? I completely agree that we shouldn't have a complete squad overhaul this year but wouldn't targeting the main areas this summer make most sense?
We already have a lot of talented attacking players, it would be amazing if we added someone like Reus but that's in dream land.

We need 2 CMs and a LB this summer. Anything less and we may struggle next year if others strengthen. Anything more is a bonus.

DDG
Rafael Jones Smalling Shaw
Carvalho Kroos
Matt Kagawa (Rooney) Januzaj
RVP

With the right manager that team can win the league no doubt. I would be much less confident if we only brought on 1 CM.

It would make sense, certainly, but my post was based on the assumption we sign a quick and direct wide player that is a goal threat; if we didn't, that second centre mid would be of a higher necessity. I think such a wide player would make us look a hell of a lot more dangerous, and it's largely due to a lack of goals that we find ourselves at our present murky depths. If I had the choice, I'd take the winger this summer and the second centre mid in 2015, when we'll be looking to re-establish ourselves as a european power.

A winger is more of a priority than a second midfielder and even a left back (if Evra stays - not looking likely). We need to reinvigorate our attack, bring the fear factor back to our forward play. A quick powerful winger who can get in behind, beat a man one on one, score and assist will instantly improve the way we look going forward. I'm more worried about our attack than our defence right now. Constant good attacking football can make our defence look good (to an extent). A good solid defence would still leave our attack looking rather toothless, adding pressure on our defence.
