The year we won, wasn't there a 'leaked' draw which turned out to be completely accurate?

Perhaps it's a sign that we will be winning it again.

View from newbie Sporting fan:

You can forget that 18m€ plus player. From what our President has been saying, i think he will decline any deal involving player plus money. What we need is fresh money. No way Bruno de Carvalho (our President) will accept that. And that can be easily explained by two reasons. On the negative side, the fact that we only have 60% of his sporting rights (40% in the hands of a Peter Kenyon fund i think) limits our chances of accepting a player plus money deal. On the positive side, we have pretty good chances (being second in the league, 5 points in front of Porto) of achieving Champions League qualification and that will give us more financial leverage in our negotiations. It will be a case of take it or leave it for a deal with values close to his release clause.
Would 30 million be enough ?
With our previous President it would be more than enough. With this new one i don´t know. The problem for United has been the announced interest by City and Chelsea in the the past few days/weeks. Don´t know if it´s just media speculation, if the interest is real though, the negotiations will be harder.

The only players that could probably be of interest to Sporting for that player exchange are out of our reach for a series of reasons. Financial reasons are obvious. Just so you guys get the picture, our salary cap is 1 million per year (with the exception of our National Team goalkeeper Rui Patrício who earns 1.2 million euros per year). No way we can pay Nani´s wages. Only if United was willing to comparticipate a high percentage). Even so, Nani has given interviews stating that even if he leaves United, it isn´t in his plans to return to Portugal in this age. Anderson is out of question for the reason that he stated that he would only play for Porto in Portugal. I can´t see Sporting being interested in other players because of financial limitations and having too many options for some positions (quick example we don´t need a left back in case you would offer us Buttner)

I'm not so sure about that, wouldn't getting Nani would be a pretty big and probably well received signing for them?

EDIT - missed the newest post, I can see that the wages and Nani himself would likely be the bigger stumbling block.

Fabricated?

Now that would be maximum glamour. And close to maximum pant filling time, and almost hoping the first leg is at home so you're guaranteed not to be watching a dead rubber!

Barcelona don't press as much as they did, but they'd still fecking destroy us in possession.

Doesn't look like it will be Anderson, and also if it was, that would mean we value him at €12M, which I think is almost laughable, we'd be lucky to get a fee with his wages.

 Article. He's been their worst player every game he's played and been dropped, not seeing any football for over a month Feb - until recently. He got another chance in their most recent match as Borja Valero is suspended through getting sent off, subbed off after 65 mins as their worst player again.

In reality swap deals (or players + cash) happen so very rarely and must make up about 5% or less of all transfers but they make up about 90% of the transfer rumours.

Granted, I found it strange how someone can even speculate it, I was only using it as proof to claim his value at €12M mental..

I've been seeing 5 million euros. Maybe a Portuguese club would pay more, who knows

Yeah I don't see it too different myself, except I know his contract is up soon, so I'd imagine if anything we'd let him for free and save X amount of the wages he'd of cost us, I don't blame Ando like the rest though, it didn't work out, but I don't have the sentimentality like the rest in that we "owe" him, he got a job, wasn't good enough, stayed for longer than has talent warranted (Due to deficiencies in our squad/wanting to give him more time), it's now quite clear and has been for a while, he's not destined for this level of football, time for a new job, he was a let down in his time here.

I think Ando will end up back in Brazil for a pretty nominal fee. Fiorentina can't even find a place for him so I can't see why they'd want to keep him, given that his wages must be pretty, er, heavy.

Its not working out in Italy, but a weaker league like the Portuguese one he already did well in should be fine. I guess Brazil isnt much worse

I think AVB will sign him.

He started their last 2 league games.

Why do you have some sort of irrational hatred of Anderson? I watched the Juve game, and he wasn't that bad. Obviously not bad enough to start again the following week. He's never really been a 90 minute player for us so it's no wonder he gets subbed off.

I'm keeping up to date with how he does. He's been subbed after an hour or less in every game he's started having made few passes, dribbles, shots or any other impact until the recent game against Cheivo, he'd won the ball 4 times in 4 starts and 2 sub appearances. It's not been close to good enough. There were positive signs against Cheivo where he almost managed 30 passes but did win the ball 5 times in that one match and he was rewarded with 65 mins instead of being hooked at the hour.

Its not my fault he's been terrible and dropped until Borja Valero got himself sent off and suspended. No need to cry about it

Do stats really tell the whole story? If he was that bad, Montella wouldn't use him. They have alternatives when Valero is out. Could play Mati, Pizarro and Aquilani but he wants to start with Anderson. I don't really remember Anderson ever completing 90 minutes for us. He's obviously not as fit as he should be so i'm not surprised to see him subbed. He was subbed for us even in his best games.

He didnt use him for a month and hooks him after an hour every game. He's had chances and been the worst of Fiorentina's midfielders. They have 3 clearly better than him.

Pizarro averages over 66 passes a game. Borja Valero over 60, Aquilani over 53.

Anderson 20.2 . Now Anderson usually plays for an hour, the small amount of passes and involvement is surely the main reason for that. But thats the larger piece of the game. Even if you doubled it he's well behind Fiorentina's other CMs. Anderson recovers the ball less than the other 3, dribbles less than the other 3, shoots less than the other 3...

Having said all this, those 3 midfielders are good players. Its not like he's being kept out of the team by poor players, although Pizarro is old. The main thing is that Anderson needs more involvement. The Chievo game is a good sign that he's learning new things and upping his workrate because he'd never be winning the ball 5 times for us in a match. But the small amount of passes is something we saw a lot from him. We all know he can go on a nice run and thats one of the things he can bring to a team, but he barely ever does it. Really. Not even once a game does he try to dribble. It wasnt enough for us and its not enough for Fiorentina

He started their last 2 league games.

Sorry, i'm not trying to be a prick correcting you man, but i was just curious as i heard different from the Serie A expert on Talksport a day or two ago.

He was wasnt even on the bench for the Viola's last 2 League games.

He last played (as a sub) in the Lazio defeat on 02.03.14. And he didnt play nor make the bench, in either game against Juve in the Europa League last 16 tie.

He's played (starting & sub) about 7 games (6 league & 1 cup) since his loan move in mid-Jan tho, which isnt bad to be honest. Problem is, i dont think he's played a full game yet & i hear its not workin out.

Portugal seems like a good switch for him - same lingo for a start & a drop in standard that may suit him better..

Thanks to Coda (Newbs' Forum):

It's seemed for a while now that he is the most likely target for the summer. It'll be nice to get that one wrapped up soon so that we can sit back and enjoy his WC performances without worrying about other clubs coming in for him.

Alex Shaw chats so much shite this time every week, just to get more hits for his paper.

I've not watched him at all. What type of midfielder is he?

A silky, massive and strong midfielder who patrols the zone in front the defense. Not hugely mobile, but you won't see him get bullied.

I'd call him more of a supportive midfielder than a defensive or attacking midfielder though.

I'm not convinced he'd offer us much more than Fellaini, personally.

Yeah, I was going to say, sounds exactly like Fellaini. We need more mobility in midfield.

Anyway, like I said I haven't watched him at all so its no point rushing to conclusions.
