Can't see Van Gaal agreeing to this. The more time he has on the training ground with united the better.

Think he would have to accept it. Even Fergie had to accept the odd friendly in the Middle East when he was in charge with the Champions League to contend to.

6-8 friendlies is ridiculous. Also should we not be using the mid week breaks as an advantage in the title race. Maybe a home and away tie to cash in would be doable.

I assumed that the 6-8 friendlies would be spread across the season, could be wrong though, but the comment "seeing as both clubs won't be playing in Europe" made me think that.

Are we all sure these 6-8 friendlies are all against each other... We could just be doing a mini tournament.

After the second game there would be no demand for any more. People would get bored. United and Milan would be much better off trying to get one of the big continental teams to play them during the European winter break instead of putting all their eggs into each others' baskets.

The money it can generate is vital for club. 6-8 is too much but 3-4 over a season is OK I suppose. Hopefully the locations will be selected keeping league matches and against whom they are in mind while deciding schedule.

The 'TV audience' might, not in the Country where 3rd match is organized, and that is where most revenue will come from such friendlies. For ex. If they play 1st two in Qatar and USA and lets say 3rd is in India (it won't but assume), I and other United fans will definitely try everything to make it to watch.

Edit: Agree though on involving a 3rd country otherwise. To keep up more interest.

I agree with this. We should use this point to our advantage and fully focus on Premier League.

Liverpool did exactly the same and they almost won it.

Those friendlies seem ridiculous. We should be resting the players instead of dragging them around the world.

Agree, this wouldn't benefit us trying to get back into the top four. These would be pointless.

There was me thinking that we would benefit in the league without European football but the morons who run the club will have us flying all over the world in between games.

If he's around £10-12m and we manage to dump Young/Valencia in the process, sure, why not?

Extra games all about recouping lost money and shirt sales. Exploiting the "brand." Chickens. Home. Roost.

Will be good opportunities to play the youngsters as well, I'm all for it.

Because that is exactly how we ended up with Valencia and Young in the first place.

Didn't we end up with them because Ferguson wanted them though? If Van Gaal wants this guy, and we can get him, then we'll end up with him too.

Before his injury, Valencia was one of the best winger in the PL. We shouldn't forgot that.

Sometimes you have to take risks on players though. Best case scenario: we get an upgrade on Valencia/Young/Nani. Worst case scenario: we replace one mediocre player for another, except on lower wages.

Should be a fairly easy and low risk deal, at a time when we need to get a lot of deals done.

This. We need to be looking at top class players to get us back to the levels of other rivals. I think it showed against Hull that even having someone like Lawrence in the team didn't have a negative impact. I didn't even think he was close to making a debut to be honest, yet he still performed well against a lower level premier league team.

I would rather we just used younger players as our squad players, especially next year when you would imagine we play less games, and have less injuries.

The idea of us purposely littering our schedule with sh!Tloads of friendlies, and thus losing the only one bonus of not being in Europe, is as mad as it gets.

The idea of these friendlies being in far flung places is really mad.

Imagine a possible schedule?

Liverpool Home Saturday
stupid friendly in Qatar midweek
Everton Away Sunday

And who do you propose we go for, that is a top class winger who is also attainable?

I can see Jones getting injured twice during this time. Absolute madness and problem for any manager.

There's only one way to cope with this shite - overhaul squad in the summer but even that can't guarantee success because of the time lag from pointless double trip there and back.

Agree, this would be incredibly stupid and putting commercial success firmly over a title challenge. A big part of the reason Liverpool did so well last season was the ability to play one game on the Saturday / Sunday and immediately start preparations for the game the following weekend with no midweek games or travel to worry about.

We also shouldn't forget that the injury did not coincide with him turning shit, since he won player of the season for us after his leg break.

Paddy Power don't even make their own gifs, evident by stealing that one from Olly the other week. Can't see them paying to chop down rain forest! Not to mention it's clearly PR suicide...

Can't believe there are people actually wondering whether the rainforest pic is real or not.
