Doubt either Evra or Shaw will be happy to be back up next season.
evra knows he can t afford to play 50 games next season while Shaw will have to accept that playing 25 games in your first season at OT is something to be proud of. (assuming Shaw really signs for us cause Chelsea getting loads of cash for a funnier version of slideshow bob has made me nervous)

I have rather Evra as back-up than Buttner and it's important we have someone with experience/leadership in the defence (after Vidic and Ferdinand) so i agree

But i have seen 20-25 Southampton games last season (My mum lives there) and Shaw is 100% ready for us, biggest english talent in my opinion

Evra's time is over at Old Trafford......i love Paddy......but he was average in the last 2 years

And for me it's very important that we're playing the same back-four for 75% of the games, that was one of our big problems in the last 2-3 years......we have changed to much our defence
I live in Southampton and I agree with you. Shaw is 100% good enough to start for us regularly. But we've seen many times before young players burning out because they've played 40-50 games a season for 8 years by the time they are 26. It's just too much football. Shaw, just like Rafael, can be eased into the role. And even then he will get 25 games next season atleast.

And I agree with you about Evra being on a downward spiral for a good few years now. However I think that is down to the sheer number of games he has played in the last 8 years (another reason we don't want to give Shaw too many games too early). If Evra gets to share that role it's a real chance his performances may go up. I know he's much older but getting that increased rest will be beneficial for his performances.
There are way more positives than negatives in keeping Evra and still getting Shaw imo. Experience, leadership, role model, he loves the club. Less games so hopefully performances go up and if they don't, well we have Shaw don't we?

It's a headache I'd rather have as a manager. Definitely preferable to Alexander 'positional sense? What's that?' Buttner.

Spot on there.

With the lack of good defenders around I would be more than happy to play the below for 75% of the time.

De Gea, Rafael, Jones, Smalling, Shaw.

Problem is 3 of them are made of glass.

Shaw and Evra sharing the left back spot (Shaw being first choice and getting the most games mind) is a perfect situation.

I think most on here know that Evra has been shite recently, but we also realise that playing 50+ games can't be easy, especially at 33. With someone to take over the mantle of first choice left back, I think we can get a few more seasons out of Patrice. Plus his attitude to play for United is

Ogden also said we had a deal in place for Kroos but LVG pulled the plug.

It's still only early... one of the most exciting summers in recent years (transfer wise) only got going at the very end of May 2007.

Anderson and Nani were announced on the 30th and not very long after (albeit after a drawn out affair) Hargeaves was announced.

I know mate, Ogden was just confirming it. I know people were saying we pulled out because he wouldn't come here.

Oh right yeah, I thought it was obvious with the timing of what happened that we pulled out and then Kroos gave it the old 'didn't want to go anyway stick' but some people did seem to miss that.

Where abouts in Southampton do you live?

I can't help but get my hopes up and it's always ending in broken dreams

It's becoming a joke...
I left a United mock team yesterday on a whiteboard for my work mate to see today (Liveprool fan)
Team included Kroos and a few others.

Called me today and said, I've changed Kroos for McCarthy...
I assume the McCarthy thing wasn't legit as sky got rid of it, but hey

Can your mate play midfield? ;)

Yeah I know bitterne, used to be a member of pure gym. I've just moved to Hedge End village from Eastleigh.
Moving from Eastleigh is always going up in the world. Haha. It's nice down here. I used to go pure gym aswell. Bitterne leisure centre now.

Yeah I agree. Some right fecking Ihni binni dimi diniwiny anitaime in beastleigh, glad to be rid of the place.

Christ above if that is actually true! I thought Moyes apparently pulling the plug on the Thiago transfer was bad but this would take it to a whole new level!
I'm not getting why, when we are absolutely screwed in central midfield that we would pull out. There isn't a better alternative. Unless he thinks that we can get Vidal, Strootman, Gundogan, Pogba or Fabregas I don't see how we could do better. Makes no sense to me.

Very worrying if this is true. I really fear he could just bring some Dutch players with him simply because he is used to working with them. The signings of Kroos is a no-brainer. I really worry for the future of this football club if pretty much every poster on here is aware of this but our manager is unable to see it.

Surprised Palace let Chamakh go

I'm genuinely surprised they let Speroni go. He was excellent last season.

In talks for new deals with both of 'em apparently.

Exactly, it's mental. It's not even like we just need the one midfielder and we have a lot to choose from, if that was the case I wouldn't be too arsed but when in an ideal world we could do with 3, we're hardly in a position to be turning our noses up at one of the best available. It's only May so there's a long way to go and we can only hope that we won't be bothered about turning him down come September.

I get what you mean but if its LVG's call, I'm far more comfortable. That means it wasn't ineptitude on our part, that the Glazers ARE willing to spend on quality, and that LVG has a vision already on what he wants his team to be. It took Moyes a long time to figure that out and we suffered for it. It could still prove to be a bad decision, of course, but he should get a chance to make the team his own. And I say this as a huge Kroos fan.

It's probably a big leap but I'm hoping van Gaal pulling out of the Kroos deal, with it as close as it was rumored to being completed, that he's confident of being able to complete other midfield signings.

Umm.. He's supposed to be in Manchester moving in by now. They've been house-hunting and all that. Besides he's going to be a "northern-based" player won't he?

Until Southampton accept the bid, it's irrelevant. He isn't going to hang around in a hotel up North in case they do over the weekend.

I'm sure if the deal is agreed in the next few days, we can rush him up here for his medical before he meets up again with England.

I'm glad Evra's staying on, Worst Case Scenario: we won't be left with just Buttner at the start of next season should Woodward screw up the Shaw deal!

Difference is that LVG knows Kroos. If he doesn't think he will fit into his team, then what do we know?

To be fair Evra isn't much better these days.
I can't see Shaw joining us, I'm a pessimistic cnut these days
