It makes little sense though. 8 homegrown out of a 25 man squad is 32% homegrown. 5 out of 21 is 24%. So the punishment reduces the number of homegrown players in the squad.

If they have 5 home grown players then the max squad size decreases to 18 right?

UEFA should just shaft them out of the Champions League. Replace them with the side from Manchester that Europe holds in strong regard.

Don't forget that even though we didn't qualify for europe the extra dosh we made in new Premier deal means we pretty much the same for the year. Now is the time for us to buy.

What's the CL quota?

http://www.uefa.com/news/newsid=943393.html

  • From 2008/09, clubs in the UEFA Champions League and UEFA Europa League required a minimum of eight homegrown players in a squad limited to 25. These rules are also in force in several national leagues across Europe.

  • Clubs have no obligation to put a certain number of homegrown players on the field of play, or on the matchsheet. They are entirely free in their team and matchday squad selection.

  • UEFA defines locally-trained or 'homegrown' players as those who, regardless of their nationality, have been trained by their club or by another club in the same national association for at least three years between the age of 15 and 21. Up to half of the locally-trained players must be from the club itself, with the others being either from the club itself or from other clubs in the same association.

Depends what they mean... If LVG has a budget of £100m say, then ye, I'm sure they'd sell any player for 100m if he blew the entire budget on one player

Bild has taken it's 'source' from Daily Mail and claim that we're on 245 mil Euro to spend. They're as well claiming that VG's 'wishlist' consists of Badstuber, Mandzukic, Robben and Kroos.

So yea, Jan is just being retarded again.

Seeing Fjortoft's name on here makes me think of the time Keano threw a right hook at him at Old Trafford against Middlesbrough. Can't remember how well he connected but he was definitely sent off.

Which is odd because he seemingly hates united. No German player would ever move to us if it was down to him

Up to half of the locally-trained players must be from the club itself

Does that mean that club must personally have produced at least half of its quota of homegrown players?
I find the wording a bit weird.

Locally = Associate nation, half of them must have been trained by the club during their developmental years (15-18).

I know what homegrown players are. "Up to half" just baffled me a bit. 'Up to' or 'at least'?

Please not Robben or Muller. Please not Robben or Muller. Please not Robben or Muller.
I would be thrilled should we sign any Bayern first team player. Although it's not in the areas we really need, both Robben and Muller would greatly improve us.

Muller is class, and he has the most German face I've ever seen.

They're both cnuts, and Muller is a horrible player to watch whose best position is the strongest in our squad and whose second best is our second strongest.

The Robben objection is less rational - it's literally just because he's such a dislikeable bastard.

The 'I'd be thrilled to sign any top player' attitude only applies for me when we're talking about CMs, because that's the only position where we're actually desperate.

I think the Robben talk is just a case of how shite our wingers/wide-mids have become. Every chance Van Gaal has just got it in his head that we need at least ONE consistently good player in the wide areas to do something on the regular.

Even the likes of Januzaj will continue to be inconsistent this season given his age.

I love Robben as a player. One of my favourite players.
But it just wouldn't make sense to buy him.

Badstuber is an interesting one, he's only just returning from a long injury spell but he's still relatively young. I don't know much about him, he's obviously good enough if he was a first choice CB for Bayern but isn't he rather slow?? Could any Bundesliga experts shed some more light on him as a player.... How good is he?? how likely are Bayern to sell him??

We really should stay away from him. If I'm not mistaken has he ruptured his cruciate ligaments twice and it will actually be quite something, if he manages to have a decent career after this. I wouldn't want another injury-prone defender playing for us.
