Frustrating reading people saying others should shut up and be content. We clearly need more new players in order to be successful, which is what everyone wants, not rocket science.

Yeah but I just love how he's hated for a whole year, is revered after signing Shaw and Herrera in the same week and then is a 'lying cnut' when we have a period of inactivity (which LVG explicitly warned/informed us about). We're almost certainly going to sign some more players before the end of the window and I'll be interested to see if some of these hysterical children change their tune again.
I'm sure we'll sign more players. But if it's not a Di Maria or a Vidal then Woodward will still be a cnut. And if United lose a game then he'll be even more a cnut. And eventually Van Gaal will be a cnut for not getting more players in.

At this stage it would almost (almost) be a relief if we were told there was no signings coming, so we can just deal with supporting Van Gaal in getting as much as he can out of what he is has, rather than pondering phantom formations. I'd still prefer we got Rojo at least, but I won't be calling Woodward and Van Gaal cnuts if we don't.

You can defend our transfer dealings all you want, but they have not been good enough.
'Muppet' or not, nobody can look at our squad and be positive that we have an excellent squad right now.

As it stands I consider Chelsea and City's squad to be better than ours, and when you look at the depth, a lot better than ours.
Liverpool and Arsenal I would say are around similar quality right now. The problem is, we need to get back into the champions league next season or it could end up a downward spiral.
Players will be even more put off than they are now. Companies wont want to sponsor us as much, and it will start to have a big effect on us. (Just look at the Structure of the Adidas deal)

Now, I am confident we will make it in to the Champions league this season, but it wont be an easy ride. Arsenal and Liverpool will be tough, and with Pochettino at Spurs, he could get them playing some nice football.

We are lucky that we have less games to play, so we can play a much stronger squad week in week out, and yes, with Van Gaal as the manager, I am confident that he will get better performances out of the team than Moyes did, hence why I am quite confident we will get within the top 4 this season.

Lets look at the squad.
Van Gaal played 352 with Holland because he didn't think they were good enough defensively. The same reason why we are playing it. You could argue it is to fit Mata, Rooney and RVP in the same team, but we are not a good defensive unit. We have lost Evra, Ferdinand and Vidic, and so far have replaced them with Shaw (We may get a defender or two, which we need, but a club, performing well in the transfer market would have these players signed up by now, not after the season has started)
In midfield we have lacked quality for some time, everybody knows it. We have Herrera now, which is great, he seems a tidy player so far, but we are currently relying on Fletcher, who has had a decent pre season, but that is totally different than playing Premiership football. Carrick is out for some time, and then there is Cleverley and Fellaini. Again, it is as clear as can be that we need a midfielder.
If you consider what would be our strongest starting 11 right now, there is also a clear lack of pace anywhere in the team

It also doesn't help when we have Moyes last year and Woodward this year telling everybody we can break world record fee's etc, and that money is not a problem at this club, yet getting players in is always such a difficult task

I'm sorry to post this in the twitter thread, but was just responding to certain posts in here.

Harsh dude. People have varied opinions or mental imagery of the direction United should take and different ways of expressing them. Some are overzealous or exuberant and some get depressed easily out of genuine concern for the club. Doesn't mean they're not true United supporters at heart.

I genuinely believe that a sizeable portion of modern fans now live from transfer window to transfer window and support the club from that end instead of a traditional interest in football being played. I posted about it in noodle's thread in the general. I wouldn't necessarily say that they are not United fans at heart, just that they are looking for something different from the club that other types of fan.

There's a sociological thesis in there somewhere.

Twitter.

Has anyone said that? If so, can you point out where?

Yeah there are people who desperately want marquee signings and think that way about football. Names, marquee signings, who cares about the team as a whole.

How dare they try and keep their players.

Look if a player wants to go and you get a good deal for him than you take it. If you force a player to stay and take up an impossible position in the negotiations, especially if you do it just to make a point, you are a selfish dick.

What in godsname don't they get about Rojo requesting to leave, he doesn't want to play for them anymore, how hard is that to understand ? What club would desperatley want to cling onto a player who doesn't want to be at your club anymore ? And it is not like he is forcing his way out for scraps, there is a solid €20m offer for him on the table, that is a fecking good deal. Now I know they only get like 25%, but they only invested in him for 25%, so what are they jammering about that it isn't enough ?

They are just dicks and are trying their hardest to mess this deal up to screw with Doyen group and in the proces they will ruin the dream of Rojo who has earned this transfer by the way he played last year and on the world cup and they are ruining a good transfer for us aswell. So I'am going to go out here and say it, Sporting are a bunch of dicks. The kind of people who you don't like doing business with and the kind of people who'll desperatley try to avoid doing business with. I really hope if this deal doesn't go through we take note of that and the next time Sporting wants somekind of favor from us or tries to loan or buy one of our guys we just go and be dicks about that aswell and be all unreasonable just for the sake of it.

Fair enough mate that seems about right.

I would agree that fans sometimes have disproportionate expectations especially in the transfer market. But then again people might look at the high profile business some other clubs are pulling and emote in irrational ways and maybe its just their way of expressing the standard United should upkeep. Sometimes it gets a bit tedious yes, but I'll give them the benefit of the doubt. Can we judge their support on the basis a cyber interaction ? Personally don't think so.

Not harsh, I think is especially those that have been spoilt with so much success especially those under say 30 or so who have known nothing but top 3 finishes until last season. But some of the criticism that players and management get is so over the top. Pretty fed up with them praising other teams how they perform but which club is the most successful? How would they cope supporting these other "fantastic" clubs ?

I think we got it. Sporting guys are a bunch of dicks.

Oh I agree but do we have to repay in kind by being equally hyperbolic ?

Don't think there's any chance of that happening. With all due respect to Atletico, last season I think was a one off and Reus will only go to one of the biggest teams in the world, and that's next summer. That is, one of Bayern, Real, Barca, United or maybe City/Chelsea. Can't see him going anywhere else. After all, he wants to go somewhere to win trophies, and financially and trophy wise Atletico don't exactly offer anything more then Dortmund do.

This picture is amazing. Cracking pose, and that background. Their photographer also does Primary School picture days by the looks of it.

Brilliant

Just finished reading this to look up and see the exact same background in my old school photo.

Reus?!?! Hahahahhahahaha we can't get a third choice LCB from Sporting. Forget about any world class talent at United with that fool of Co.

Try to ignore most of the ranting that goes on - but sometimes....
Anyway season's nearly upon us and looking forward to watching the games with or without any more signings, although still convinced Vidal will come and will sign a defender, but if it doesn't happen, still and always will have undying support of the club and the players we have

There are mitigating reasons for that, will take a bit of time but sure it'll happen, doubt we'd be in for Rues even he he was on the market.
