Is Barca signing Vermaelen and trying to get Walker some sort of dig at Madrid and the Galacticos?
I hope not. Claiming the moral high ground in the way you play, I can live with that, but not in terms of transfer philosophy.

Walker

Doubt they'd sign Johnson either, he's only just joined Gladbach this summer.

Besides of that, Johnson is far, far away from being at Barcelona's level. He is versatile, which is about the only interesting thing about Johnson for a Club like Barcelona.

Who says you need to play a winger either side for one?
Another thing is that he can also play CM, on top of that tactically we may need to switch between formations during a game.

Example LVG made reference to the fact he switch to 4-3-3 against Mexico at the WC and won the game

Well if we're playing the standard 4-3-3 formation then the striker is flanked by 2 wingers, Di Maria would be one of them. I do get that formations have to be adaptable too but i just think we would have to shoe-horn Di Maria in and shunt a few players out of position. Dont get me wrong Di Maria is a great player but logically it creates more problems than it solves.

Not really, that means Mata playing in the hole and Rooney upfront.
More of a 4-2-3-1 formation then rather than the 4-3-3? So in your 3 behind the striker you would have Rooney, Mata and Di Maria. So either Mata or Rooney would have to play to the right of their favoured number 10 position just to accomodate Di Maria.

The main problem with that is that we're making it pretty clear he's not our first choice, or at least that he's not a priority. When/if we do bid they'll be aware that we'll be pretty desperate as we'll have missed out on the players we did want with only a few weeks to go. He'll end up going for £20m+ which is a daft price for him.

4-2-3-1 is a 4-3-3 in Van Gaal's mind, he will always say 4-3-3 and precise if there is a DM or a 10.
And you shouldn't assume that RVP is guaranteed to play, he will start the season behind Rooney.

I am happy with the Rojo signing. I still think we need a proven CM like Vidal rather than someone like Blind. Also where would Di Maria play in the 3-5-2?

Sorry was clarifying not questioning. Is it worth playing Mata or Rooney out of position to fit Di Maria into the team? It would also place a considerable obstacle in front of Januzaj's progression in the team. I'm not saying that LVG cant make the system work I jsut dont believe thats where he is focusing his attention with 19 days of the window left.

I don't think we'll sign Blind, LVG could've done so ages ago and Ajax are demanding an obscene amount of money IMO for someone who won't really solve any of our problems. We need to aim higher.

The problem is that you are assuming that RVP is the striker because in my mind RVP is on the bench.

Januzaj--Mata--Di Maria
Rooney

Even if we play in 3-4-3, i suspect that it will be:

----Mata----
Welbeck--Rooney

Exactly. I think we have players on a similar level to Blind already in the squad. We need a Vidal or a Strootman.

Rojo and Blind alone would be very solid additions, would give our squad a much stronger look. If that was it though (along with Herrera and Shaw), I think I'd be pretty disappointed. Think we need one big name to come into the first team and instantly strengthen us. Di Maria looks the more likely, but Vidal is the one we really need IMO.

This thread is like that show LOST, it drives me to frustration cos nothing happens but I come back every feckin time in case I miss something.

Same here.

Everytime I open this thread i am hoping for some good news.

Anyone know how many foreigners we have currently registered? Does foreigner mean non-EU?

13.

Rafael, De Gea, Mata, Fellani, Januzaj, Nani, Hernandez, Valencia, Kagawa, Van Persie, Lindegaard, Herrera, Anderson.

Fabian Johnson just moved to Monchengladbach this summer on a free transfer. I guess if he hasn't played for them in a competition yet he could still transfer or Barca could pay them for a loan. If this is true, it's ridiculous.

I think both Rafael and Januzaj must be falling under 'home-grown' players criteria. Januzaj has to, not totally sure on Rafael.

I think that is Non home grown - Home Grown rather than Foreigners as in not British. That sort of critieria is illegal under EU.
