If you actually listened to what Woodward said youd know that he said of course we will make record signings IF and ONLY IF its a player the manager wants. The prerequisite being the manager wanting a player. Van Gaal has never been known to want to sign players for the sake of signing players. He will target players that he feels will improve us and that's all Woodward has to ensure. Further van Gaal said he wanted to assess the squad which he has done now and he's now at the stage where he'd clearly know who we should target. That's pretty much like any set of fans. When a journo like Jamie Jackson or something says "United are signing.... soon" we all just say he's a bullshitter. When the same person says "United are selling....." we all start getting worried. For example the Daily Mail article saying Rafael is one Van Gaal OK'd to go, causes a bit of panic on here but we all ignore their stories about who we're signing.

Be interesting what they call the period before 14 then. 2001-2004 he was at Wimbeldon, prior to them being disbanded. Not worth really arguing about, I just find it strange that youngsters who have been introduced into the game by one team, and then taken on by another, seem to only be regarded as the latter. All pisstaking aside, I think the reality is somewhere in the middle. I suspect there are players Woodward can get, but LVG doesn't want them. I also suspect the players Woodward hasn't been able to get the players LVG wants so far, rather than him not wanting players at all.

But the real formation begin around 13-14 years old and finishes at 21 years old.
