Benatia was linked in the Express, and all the other reports about Benatia to United have come after the Express article.

Poop!

And DiMarzio just says this (from yesterday):

The city of Manchester is in the headlines of the transfer news. Both City and United are pondering big names. Van Gaal evaluates the most talented players. Is Benatia a Manchester United’s target? So far they haven’t presented an official offer to Roma. Should they decide to make a concrete attempt to acquire him, Roma would listen to it and examine the proposal. The Italian club is willing to negotiate only starting from certain economic conditions, they want at least €35M (the same fee that allowed Manchester City to get their hands on Mangala). The top clubs eye Benatia and study a potential decisive move to acquire him.

Oh well, won't get my hopes up on that one yet then.

I´m suspicious of the rumors related United. None of the journalists known to be close to the club e.g. Ladyman, Ogden, Ducker, even Jamie Jackson, are backing up any of these stories about Benatia, Cuadrado or Di Maria. That´s not to say that the papers reporting these stories are inventing them, but that briefing does not seem to be coming from the club. Just look at the coordinated way the Manchester press pack reaffirmed the Smalling-Vermaelen stuff yesterday. They all got briefed. Yet, none of those guys are saying anything about Song etc.

People will say the Manchester press pack knew nothing about Herrera (Andy Mitten seemed to know very fast though), but that deal was done within days of the leak. Plus, the Manchester lads knew all about Shaw for months and months. A lot of these stories are coming from outlets like the Star and the Express, which have not got the rep for United related scoops that some of the other papers have. Not convinced.

Since when did we target Rakitic -- or Vertonghen?

To my knowledge, never. That´s what I mean about these stories. Plenty of agents using the name of Manchester United to put pressure on clubs to do deals.

I´m not paying attention to anything that isn´t written up by the Manchester press pack or proper ITKs like Andy Mitten.

He isn't. DiMarzio reported that United were really interested in him and tried to sign him, before he joined Barcelona
Doubt it was true. Plus, he joined Barcelona before the World Cup didn't he? Wasn't a Van Gaal target then.

That Dominguez is a bit of a bullshitter I think. There hasn't been a peep about Verthongen or Rakitic to Utd.

Di marzio said we were very interested but the player did not want to leave spain. You can google the article, it will be in italian. Vertonghen i dont know about, But he may have considered him as vertonghen was very highly rated at ajax and van gaal has great contacts at that club. I posted the tweet because all player were the same except one (vertonghen).

Interesting that juve are going for more players, as far as the market says they are quite skint, they are sure to sell some players. Lets see.

Fecking hell, bet Milan fans would drive Zapata to Juve themselves. Dunno why they'd want him.

Who is the sports editor for the Daily Express? Surely he needs to handed his P45 and told to go look for another job.

I would be amazed if Barca are seriously in for Cuadrado, especially at the price tag he is being mentioned. 15m or so price, it is believable, but can't see them spending upwards of 30m euros on a player in a position where they have players available.

With Zubizarreta anything is possible. A centre half has been required since 2011, yet he's continued signing players who haven't been needed.

On the other hand, he will get raise and promotion. e-Papers/Sites nowadays care more about hits than being reliable. There are millions of fans out there for whom goal.com is source of daily transfer news. So in such case, for somebody like Daily Express, who don't have quality journalists writing something sensible or intelligent, reporting random rumours is their best way to get those hits.
