He'd clearly be a good signing.
Clearly not. If that's the answer to our midfield problem, then I seriously question this club's ambition as well as our scouting network. Might as well stick with Fellaini if we are going to be signing him.

I don't remember us ever going for Neymar. It was probably Spurs as they showed real interest.

I don't think we were ever in for Neymar. We were for Lucas, and had an offer very close to a done dealio until Leonardo came and tapped (is this the right word?) the kid to PSG.
It appears we did make a bid on deadline day.

He is better than Fellaini, and as a combative CM/DCM he is better than what we have

I'm with you but he would bolster the midfield, especially if our primary transfer targets aren't available right now. They could be in January or next summer.

Highly debatable. De Jong has done nothing in recent years which would suggest he would be a good signing to this club. If that's the best we can think of, then I am lost for words. We have scouts all over the world, surely there is a feckin midfielder out there who can do a better job than a 29year old Dutch lunatic. He had a decent world-cup and people now assuming he is the answer?

I thought we bid for Neymar? Didn't Santos say they rejected something like 60 million from us? Or that the player had his heart set on Barcelona?

IIRC the report in question said the deal was done for him to join us. The club denied that a deal was complete but not necessarily that we had made an offer.

He actually had a good season for AC Milan (personally for him) and was good at the WC (when fit). He is not the answer long term but if other players are not available (or injured) then I don't think he is a bad stop gap.

It's really not debatable at all, De Jong is in a different class to Fellaini though I admit a 30+ year old ex City player wouldn't be top of my want list as far as midfield targets go either

Premier league proven, consistent, gives us steel in midfield, gives creative players freedom, good value, would be suitable in a 4-3-3 if that is what we are aspiring to play, our midfield wouldn't go missing with him in it.. Sounds like a good buy to me. It might not be an eye catching buy but its the right buy.

If we were to get de Jong this Summer and maybe Strootman in January then I'd be more than happy. The answer to our midfield isn't just one big buy.

Premier league proven? As in really really average? Consistently average? According to Woody we are not looking for value and the funds are available, there are plenty of midfielders out there superior to De Jong. If we get him along with Vidal it would make sense but if he is our only remaining buy in midfield, we are aspiring for another average midfield this season.

Also, Van Gaal already said he is not looking for short-term solutions.

If we're signing any Dutch players to play in midfield it will be Blind and maybe later... Strootman.

Nope, as in necessary. Fernandinho does a similar job for City now that de Jong used to do, and if you think that Yaya would have had a season as good as that without Fernandinho doing the leg work then you're out of your mind.

I'm not saying we'll sign him, just saying he'll be a good signing.

Manchester hot on the market. Big names, half official. From the City to United, Van Gaal searches the most interesting talents. Benatar in the viewfinder? At the moment, there has been no offer to Rome. Should get a concrete formalization, the Giallorossi will hear, and will assess the proposal in detail. Rome willing to negotiate only under certain economic conditions on the plate at least 35 million euro (same amount by which the City was able to get my hands on Mangala). Benatar and yellow in the window, the big look. And studying a possible move of the market, decisive

Told you it would all kick off today. Hahahaha honestly I only make educated guesses but once again I am right.

we're leaving it all to the last day to ensure some sheer madness.
