Haha, Mundo Deportivo basically say that Sky Sports nicked their claims of a bid for Vermaelen.

Manchester United keep quiet on Juan Cuadrado after fears of price hike http://ind.pn/1pBU7FD

"I cannot talk about Cuadrado, because if I say something about him the price will rise," he said after United's 3-1 Champions Cup victory over Liverpool.

Strange, I thought van Gaal said ""I cannot talk about players, because if I say something about it the price will rise," or something along those lines, not specifically mentioning Cuadrado. Did anyone see the presser, I'm going on twatter updates here.

He didn't mention any particular player, just players in general.

I thought the same as you. I don't know if Cuadrado's name has been added for a bit of extra effect somewhere down the line, but as far as I'm aware he didn't mention him specifically.

Cant believe they are passing it off as a direct quote, it doesn't even make sense. If he's worried about the price rising then obviously he is interested! If you're going to fabricate quotes then try not to make them sound so dumb.

they're lying

He didn't mention cuadrado. Sky showed clip yday and it was just the general comment. I'm sure even if he was asked about cuadrado they would have mentioned it.

Independent have really been awful this Summer.

Independent used to be reliable and not doing gossip stuff at all a while back though slow. Guess they did not get hits .

It's amazing how a technical player like Scholes is rated highly and admired in Spain so much more so he is in England.

It's one thing seeing Daily Star jumping on that alleged Cuadrado but for The Independent to not double-check and get their facts right is really embarrassing.

Everybody loves to hate United, it was fashionable.

Scholes is probably the best player I have ever seen on any pitch, as opposed to on TV.

Also, Xavi has said before that Manchester United is his English club. If he'd left Barça, that's where he would have gone. He loved United's team of the early 90's with likes of Keane, Ince, Cantona, Giggs and Sharpe etc.

Generally, English fans are thick as feck.
Yup. If Xavi joined united, and played with Scholes and Keane, it would have been interesting to see if ferguson would have played a 4-3-3 even though turn of the century when Xavi nearly joined united, he would have had 4 strikers.

As underrated as he may be by ABU's, he's also slightly overrated by some United fans. He was a wonderful player but some people talk of him as the best midfielder of the last 20 years. Which is ridiculous.

Yep and no doubt if Xavi has played in England or God forbid for England he wouldn't be rated that highly by the more or less tactically naive British media!

That's a fair point but a Scholes type player is rated higher in Spain than in England seemingly.

Im note sure he is actually all that underrated. He was a great PL player for years and most people I know, United fans or not, seem to think very highly of him.

In terms of being a great player for England, rather than a "great English player", he probably isn't considered as highly as others because he retired early.
