19 year old midfielder from Rennes. 8 million euros fee. Still waiting for Monaco to get their first ''big'' name in this transfer window.

Aren't they already rumoured to be backing off from that approach in the face of FFP and the fact that they have almost no fanbase to make money off?

With the money they've just brought in from selling James, couldn't they afford to bring in a big signing within FFP's restrictions?

Oh yeah, good point.

Maybe they'll spread it out between a number of more conservative signings though. I mean, if they are having to abandon the PSG-style spendfest plan, then they won't really be a realistic competitor for the big signings any more. Presumably that's what selling Rodriguez and possibly loaning Falcao so soon after buying them is about - if they're no longer planning to buy their way straight into the big-time, then how can they attract and keep those big-time players?

@SiClancy I know of one Premier League club that have a strong interest in Clyne

Hope it's us.

Jesus, if they lose Clyne along with Schneiderlin and Rodriguez their fate could be all but sealed. Taking new signings out of the equation, they don't have one player I'd rate as an above average Premier League player - James Ward-Prowse aside.

We saw how difficult it is to bed in loads of new players at Spurs too. They have to hope that their next batch of youngsters are capable.

Yeah thats what i had in my head also.

It's hilarious though, because PSG must never have envisaged that FFP would throw a spanner in their works / spending & now with shit revenue streams compared to the all the top clubs in Europe - they must be banging their heads on the wall regretting not gettin involved when Abramovich bought Chelsea. Chelsea have a sustainable business plan now - City, PSG & Monaco dont. F*ck'em :D

It is mate, i reckon PSG like City naively thought they could just throw a few bogus sponsorship deals together to make their financial doping 'legit'. And Uefa would be too stupid to see what they were doing.

Both clubs obviously completely misjudged the situation and how serious Uefa were taking these rules. Looks like City & PSG have both now realized their doping days are over, and they'll have to spend what they earn from now on. Which is good news for everyone else as its pretty much an even playing field again bar Real.

We could be a different playing field as well, if we chose to spend the money required to do so.

It's far too great a risk. I've never seen asset-stripping at a club to this degree and I expect it to blow up in their face. They have an excellent academy, but which prospects look like they can make an immediate breakthrough? Targett and Gallagher possibly, but they need a number of youth players to step up, unless they sign a number of players.

In France they have a big fan base.

Well that's not what I've heard, and at any rate it's not a useful one. They get very small turnouts - second lowest in Ligue 1 last season. They attract the lowest number of opposition away fans on average too. So there's no financially leverageable fanbase there.

They have a big fan base, but in France supporters don't travel much and Since almost all Monaco's fans don't live in Monaco the attendance is poor.
The Monaco project isn't viable, if the club doesn't become an international brand.

From where is that quote because it sounds
You could probably look in the LVG thread for a full description of the interview rather than depend on the microscopic bits that come via tweets.

fecking hell, this twitter thread is such a joke! It's just this mega thread that sucks the whole forum into it and everything gets lost in random twitter spam.

Cheers, didn't know it was there. I'm camped out here for ArturON. Anything else I read in here is a bonus

Ok, well that was basically what I meant.

It's the same what Ferguson said a few years ago and what has gotten us in our midfield situation. I think and hope we won't make the same mistake again, just because we might not sign Vidal or any other midfield player of that category, there's still other players who could improve our dire midfield options.

3 managers (2 top class) have all done the same thing when it comes to our midfield, the decision not to act is surely coming from above

Anyone else having a problem seeing Adnans tweets?, all i see is a line of full dots lol.

Edit. Its fine now.

There's more on the van Gaal thread explaining why he's going with 3-4-1-2.

He rightly wants to get Rooney, Mata and van Persie in their best positions.

He won't alter the formation too much now as all the work on the training ground is being geared towards the new set up.
