All you people against Cavani might be thinking differently when Van Persie gets injured and Rooney goes through his annual "forgot how to trap the ball" phase. There are, of course, more pressing concerns with the squad, but adding proven fire power is never a bad thing.
It's hard enough trying to keep Chicharito and Welbeck happy being on the bench, let alone Cavani when we have no European football to offer.

and how on earth do you fit van Persie, Rooney, Cavani, and Mata in one team?
It can be done. A narrow 4-3-3 with an attacking midfielder and two deeper ones. There'd be no room for Januzaj and you probably wouldn't get the best out of the players, I'm against signing Cavani.

He's 27, would cost £40M-£50M, is already frustrated at being played out of position at PSG and quite clearly below the top level tier of forwards. A good player, but he wouldn't be worth the money, especially when we have far more pressing matters at hand.

I dont think LVG has ever played a 4-3-3 with 2 deeper lying midfielders. Its always:

You can't stock pile players for an eventuality like that though. If RVP & Rooney are fit they will most likely play ahead of Cavani in the striking positions if he was here. For the fee and wages bandied about it just wouldn't make sense for wide forward who can be a back up striker.

The scenario you describe happened last year and Welbeck stepped up for a few games and scored what was it 5 in 6, so we would make do if for some reason we were without RVP & Rooney again no doubt.

I know Van Gaal has said he is concentrating on the first team short term but there seems to be quite a few supposedly at least very talented youngsters being taken in on trial, we had the two Portugese players and now West Ham players. A very good sign even if of course our first team is the priority and as of yet a few signings short. Lets hoper Woodward lives up to his word.

We'll have young players on trial all the time - its nothing new, just a slow news day.

Cavani will only work if Rooney is a new CM imo, Hernandez goes, as bearing in mind, he wants a 22 man squad, that's 3 strikers typically in Robin, Danny & Edison, with a midfield of Carrick/Fletch/ Herrera/ Rooney/ Fellaini and wings of Januzaj/Kagawa/Nani/Val

Please god not Cavani. Utterly nonsensical signing. I don't even rate him that highly, to be honest. Overrated because of his instinct for the spectacular.

Didn't Woody say he was watching fan's reaction on Twatter or something.

All everyone has to do is spam these guys twatters with stuff like, "Good player, but not what we need. No thanks". Woody will soon get the message :D
Alternatively, fans could keep barracking United's Twitter account with one-worded comments like 'VIDAL'.

Cavani would be one signing i really don't want us to do, we have other far too many pressing concerns in our squad, we need a CM, A winger and a CB. it would be a pointless singing on soo many levels its unbelievable, it would mean less playing time for Welbeck, Hernandez, Wilson, Kagawa, Adnan and Mata as he would occupy the front three spot along with Rooney and Rvp, along with it we would probably not sign another Winger and a CB which are essential for us, because our wingers are either inconsistent or shit, and our Cb's are injury prone and lacking experience.

Of course he has.
Müller
Schweinsteiger Van Bommel

Whereas the 8, in that scenario Schweinsteiger, is more like a Box-to-box midfielder, the balance between defence and attack.

I could be wrong but it was my understanding Schweinsteiger played further ahead than Van Bommel rather than alongside him. As you say, he was box-to-box but i thought he was always positionally ahead of van bommel.

It is semantics, the key is in instructions, not in initial starting position.

He was ahead of Van Bommel, but closer to him than to Müller/Kroos, who played as the only attacking midfielder.

Raises an interesting point, though: is every older person with an opinion to be considered 'senile'?

I vote absolutely yes. Now, who else hates the Jews???? Guys??????

Cavani would be an incredible signing IF it is not instead of other targets (Im looking at you Vidal) imagine this for instance.

De Gea
Rafeal-Jones-Hummels-Shaw
Herrera-Vidal
Mata
Cavani-RVP-Rooney

@Maajid probably wouldn’t even support the club if it were not for Fergie

I expect, Fergie is not overly happy with the criticism he has taken because of Moyes and wants to share his thoughts that is all. I also do not think he will have a go at Moyes, but just re-emphasise the size of the job etc...

I think you can get away with Rooney on one wing but you need a proper winger on the other side otherwise everything will become too narrow.

Cavani is just not needed, if we were going to play him on the wing we may as well buy a winger who is better than Cavani.
