Joleon Lescott for 25 million quid was not over inflation? Barry for near on 20 million wasnt? Scott Parker , Glen Johnson, Lallana, Joe Cole in the past- all gone for daft fees. Kevin Davies 7.5 million to Blackburn from Chesterfield aswell...
Andy Carroll tops the lot.

United have played a part in player price inflation, it's not just the "sugar daddy clubs. Not saying the next time the club wants to overpay for a player, they should start considering if the price they're playing will affect the market, but his point is not totally lacking merit.

Ronaldo was bargain considering some of the transfer fees.

Only in hindsight considering what is being paid after him.

Same with Rio when we paid that for him, i guess.

Shaw would be similar, imo. Anyway, as far as transfers out of Southampton this summer are considered 5 to 10 years line down it's way more likely that Shaw for 29 million will look much better than Lallana at 25.

We were in for both him and Jones IIRC. Zidane influenced him to join Real plus path to first team at the time there seemed easier.

No he obviously wasn't. Transfer fees inflate over time, that doesn't make the ones in the past bad value. At the time £80m was well beyond what anyone could have imagined any player costing. Remember Kaka had only just become the most expensive player ever for £56m.

It was a good deal for both clubs. They got a player worth the money, we got money worth the player. The problem was that at the time debt repayments were massive so we never saw a big star quality replacement brought in with the money.

Told you... Vermaelen and De Jong. Great summer ahead.

Ronaldo was worth every penny of his 80M....Bale was not, neither is J-Rodriguez going to be.
Ronaldo at that time was worth the 80m, but I believe that if Ronaldo wasn't sold for what he was, Bale would have been cheaper so too James.

Ronaldo was good value, had City signed Kaka in the Winter window for that £100m. I'd imagine the fee we would have received for Ronaldo would have been much higher than £80m.

Real are crazy. Adding Kroos and James to a CL winning side. Their squad will be good enough to make it a second time I think

I'm detecting sarcasm yet De Jong is arguably better than Gareth Barry. Aren't you happy?

We can't leave all the creativity from CM down to Herrara. We should if possible add a midfielder who is not just a hatchet man.

I reckon they will unbalance their team, but you never know.

No sarcasm. Would be delighted finishing this transfer window early with Vermaelen and De Jong. Shaw, Herrera, De Jong and Vermaelen should be enough for van Gaal to work with.

Urgh this Vidal shit is going round in circles.
The eventual signing will be all the sweeter after this roller coaster. The Herrera signing was too easy - we didn't appreciate it enough because it came out of nowhere!

Maybe, but only because that would have been a horribly inflated fee for Kaka. As it stands the Ronaldo fee was a fair amount for both parties.

In response to City and Utd fans bickering over the Nissan deal City signed.

Ok, so small fry compared to that then. Especially when you consider that the Nissan deal isn't just to sponsor Manchester City, but also New York City FC and Melbourne City FC. It's a three-in-one.

EDIT: And the Yokohama Marinos. So a 4-in-one.
