Done i guess.

Overpriced and error-prone. This presumably means they have abandoned all attempts to sign the vastly superior Benatia, who we should be pursuing in my view.

Summary:
  • Continue to monitor his situation
  • No contact with the club or the player
  • Reports that have emerged today are nonsense and we're just watching him for now
  • He's valued at £45m and contracted till 2018
  • We remain in the market for another midfielder, a center-half and versatile winger-cum-forward in the Di Maria mould
  • We're expected to sign another leftback as cover for Shaw (Rodriguez is an option)
  • Vidal continues to be heavily linked with us who are monitoring him too

These are exactly the profile of player I would hope we are looking at.

Bit fed up with all this "overpriced" blah blah.. if they get a good solid number of years who cares what you pay?

I don't like to use the term unless I think a player really isn't worth it. I think someone like De Vrij would be much better VFM.

Now let's have the arguement about it not being our money. ;)

We could have done with Managala, very good defender and certainly better than anything we currently have.

Not watched much of him recently? Admittedly Porto as a whole have had a terrible season but he's really not impressed at all this past year or so.

Forgive me for asking, but how many times you have watched it? Why clearly he is talented - from what I have seen - he isn't better than everything we have IMO. Evans is currently better and Smalling is at around the same level too.

I agree. Not impressed by him much from the games i've seen. Almost as Raw as Zouma.

Guess it was only due to age he was City's first choice over Benatia.

I've watched him plenty of times in the Europe these lasts couple of seasons though I have to disagree, Jonny Evans isn't better and Chris Smalling isn't anywhere near his level, not yet anyway.

Excuse me but Evans is way better than Mangala, Mangala was a great prospect 4 years ago but he stopped progressing a long time ago, probably by lack of games.

I disagree, I seem to not rate Jonny Evans as highly as others do.

You are underrating all 3 of our defenders.

Mangala is good with very good potential just like them.

Mangala seems a bit of a miscalculated signing by City TBF. For that amount of money they could've gone for Laporte who seems a much more refined defender and would complement Kompany really well.

So, it looks like not even Ducker and Ogden(who basically knew everything during Moyes reign) know shit these days...

I'm not underrating them at all. I just happen to think they aren't at the level we need to compete at the very top. We've just lost Rio and Vida, neither Evans/Smalling will reach their level, Jones might if we are lucky. We need to bring in a top top defender. I don't actually believe that guy is Mangala, he is also a working progress but I think he is further down the development line than those we have.

Yep.

Just because they say we are "monitoring" the situation does not mean we have not made contact with the player. Man UTD isn't going to tell them shit.

As far as Vidal and Di Maria goes I would choose to believe the foreign press. Chilean and Spanish newspapers.

Works both ways-

It's good that we don't embarrass ourselves by leaking targets and then not signing them like last summer.
It's bad for us muppets.

I for one prefer it this way as last summer was a disgusting embarrassment.

Does that make him a poorer player than our 3 current center backs then?

Yes because in his 1st year he played for Porto reserve, in his second year he has been a revelation and in his third year he has been very average. All of our current defender have played at a better level with more consistency.

People overrate him because he is extremely good in the box, he is a constant threat but defensively he has been average most of the time.

Simon Jones of the DM is clearly a very busy guy. The amount of articles he writes
