Good read that. Cheers. He's no weaker or less aggressive than Lahm. Van Gaal even played him in his trio of center backs during the WC, so I'm thinking he can handle himself. But I guess he'll be a discerning #6 rather than a physical one. I found this article interesting:

He will go down as one of our best signings ever. Can't wait to see him play at OT!
He played at OT a couple of seasons ago - in the Champions League match
Blind and that Brazilian CM (Lucas) will be a brilliant end to our summer window.
That's a fair point actually. So I do wonder what other viable CM targets LvG has in mind.Pretty sure Lucas will be one for January or next summer. Not sure we'd get a work permit before the end of the window.

I think no one in the press had much of a clue that we were after Rojo and Lucas Silva, so its likely that there could be someone out there that we're looking at.De Jong, but saw some journalists talk about United definitely having targets that no one knew about, which made me wonder what CM targets out there would be available at a reasonable price, while they'd probably accept a squad rotation role from next season one.
Perhaps Schneiderlin from Southampton could be an option, we could definitely do a hell lot worse than him, Carvalho is probably a bit too expensive currently, but besides those 2 (and De Jong/Blind), i've been unable to think of any other targets after those Ancelotti quotes on Khedira.
I think, in these circumstances, a midfield diamond is the best way forward given the work Di Maria and Herrera put in. With Blind/De Jong playing at the base and Mata at the tip we have enough to steamroll past three quarters of the league, if Di Maria comes and LvG wishes to play all of his superstars in one team then the diamond is the only way to go. Januzaj can always come in for Mata/Rooney/Van Persie to change into a 4-3-3.That's interesting, if it's an accurate quote then it's good imo that he doesn't see Rooney as, as strong a number ten as say Mata. Hopefully though he's looking in to other formations like a diamond. What Di Maria if he's coming up the pitch with his work rate a bonus not a necessity.
What a brilliant signing. Brings much needed pace and creativity into our team. What a player.
Manage a quatre!
Ooooh Aaaah!
Welcome back RHD!
So you have a player like AdM choosing us over PSG and Juve, who are both in Europe this season and genuine teams on the up and up, yet the scousers still think the promise of 6 group games as a third seed team is enough to get any player they want over United.
If di Maria maintains his form and we get in blind and Lucas, there is no reason this LVG-led side cannot challenge for the title.

Yeah Carrick is natural for the role but he is on his way out and I think Blind will surprise many people in midfield. Intelligent players like him will always transition better than the rest, he will be an unspectacular but vital cog of the machine.Yeah, although I'm more than happy with Carrick at the base, he won't be anywhere near as exposed with the work rate that Herrera has shown and Di Maria has and the onus won't be on him to do everything in the middle as it has been. I'd like to see a 433 with di maria/januzaj flanking rooney/rvp and mata in the a/m role but I think if we can get the diamond to work it would be good.
I'm sure januzaj will get good time given he can play so many roles. Tbf though if he continues on the path he was he might force his way in as he can give something very different to Rooney/RVP who are both similar players in terms of leading the line.

And herein lies my confusion with di Maria. Are we really going to play him as a wingback? Mental. Amazing, but mental. This is going to be some season to watch.

Not a chance, you don't sign a player like him only to deploy him as a wing-back.
Absolutely RR.
A shit defence - like we have, always gives the opposition hope. We seen that last Sat against Swansea.
Its not the lack of experience either. Evans is our only good CB, but he's always injured. Rafa's our only decent RB & he's always injured too.
Its rediculous to play 3 CB's at the back, when they're all injury prone & apart from Evans - they're not top 4 standard, if even that.
We need atleast 1 top-class CB & a RB - not to mention a world-class CM, if we wanna compete for the title. 4th spot is not a trophy & we have the money to make us contenders.
Last season wasnt just a blip with a shit manager - it was a wake-up call that our squad needed upgrading.
Look at how many squad players have left the club already: Rio, Vida, Evra, Buttner, Nani, Giggsy (retired). Not to mention the under-performers that need shifting out too.
We are a world behind gettin our house in order like most top teams. And the MK Dons game on Tuesday sums up how scared other teams are about us.
They're not. MK have sold out because they expect to beat us & none of their fans want to miss that![/QUOTE]
I'll have some of what you're smoking. They've sold out because they're playing Utd. The same would've been true 5 years ago.Absolutely RR.

Blind and Di Maria would be a great week. Big fan of Blind. Harder working and talented. Love that type of player.
I like the idea of Di Maria at the head of the formation, but he's nothing like Robben. The 'Robben role' was basically to lead every counter, stay upfield and never defend. Di Maria tracks back brilliantly so I'd imagine the formation would need a tweak or two - perhaps Mata in a more advanced role and Di Maria behind.
We have enough players to play up top. We need someone a little deeper to start the counter. Whether we play Di Maria on the wing or in CM, he is more than capable of starting counters from deep. I would prefer he doesn't play in the 2 in the 3-5-2 formation but a bit deeper.
There should be a formation thread, sick of coming in here and scrolling through mentalists endless magic formationsWon't happen so why bother fantasizing about it.
