Here we go again.

Linked with player:

"JUST THROW ALL THE feckING MONEY AT HIM! Who cares about money? Get it done, it's not coming out of my pocket so who cares!!!"

Slightly raise the wages of one of our players:

"WHAT THE feck HAS THIS GUY DONE TO DESERVE THAT? How dare we spend that amount of money on his wages!!!"

Manchester United fans, always providing the laughs on a daily basis.

Difference is that with our players, we're later struggling to sell them as somebody has pointed out. We'd have flogged players like Nani or Anderson long time ago if it wasn't for their ridiculous wages. It's even more ridiculous given amount of time Jones is out due to injuries and how everybody has performed last year and in the recent match.

Then we're making fecking 5 mln quid at max profit for selling players and our spent/recouped money ratio is silly.

There just seems to be such disgust on here for the club and anything it does. It won't ease until they start winning matches I guess.

Not really. We have players that haven't earn an increase in wages and don't deserve to wear the shirt, hence we need new players and new players cost money. Especially the best talents, which require lots of money.

He has two years left to go on his contract. I'd hold off on giving a pay rise until we see how performs this season when he's the main guy at the back. Make him earn it. Because right now, there's no way he deserves a £25k boost to his wages.

Same applies to Cleverley if the rumours of him signing a new contract are true. Why is the club rewarding average/poor performers with pay rises?
Next year he will be down to the last year of his contract, he will be in a far better position as he knows we could lose him for nothing or at best a reduced fee.
He’s 22, a regular in the team who can play in several positions, has bagfuls of potential and wants to commit to the Club add to that the fact that LVG obviously wants to keep him and it’s a win/win id say.

70k for Jones is perfectly acceptable.
I don't see what the issue is personally.

I'm not really aiming that at the likes of Nani, aiming it at this specific case. The club clearly want to tie down Jones to a new lengthy contract. The only issue that Jones has had for me is the niggling injuries he picks up and that's the only thing that's stopped him from cementing a regular place in the side. When he's been fit for me he's performed consistently well and continues to improve. Sure many here will disagree with that but I don't see this massive issue with him not deserving a slight raise in wages on a lengthy contract, it's the way football works.

To me it just seems like another stick to beat the club with. Whatever we do people want to find something to moan about.

I wouldn't mind if Jones gets those wages, but then I think about Mata's wages at Chelsea. He was on those wages (70k) after being their player of the season twice. Keeping that in mind I don't see it as necessary.

Jones has played most games for us when fit in the last couple of years and plenty of international caps. I would have thought £70k wasn't unreasonable, plus it's a good sign of faith in him at a time when we're looking to bring in defenders.

Obviously United's hierarchy think differently. Jones was possibly on around 35k when he signed.
Obviously.

It's not a slight raise though, he's getting his wage doubled and if the occasion rises in which we need to sell as he hasn't performed to the standard we desire or his injuries persist, we're stuck with him - much like we have been with many other players.

75k a week's fine for jones imo, he wont be signing another extension for 3 year and should prove his worth over that time. And if he doesnt, off you go son.

We're looking to bring in defenders because the ones we have aren't good enough, why should we show them faith?

Not entirely true. Given how many defenders we lost during the summer we were always going to be 2-3 defenders this season, even if the others all suddenly became Baresi during pre-season. Jones particularly has had very few opportunities to play CB, so I think he deserves the chance to show his worth. Plus the obvious one that this protects us against losing him for a small fee.

Reminds me of the moaning couple of Arsenal fans were doing on another forum when Aaron Ramsey signed a new contract in 2012/13 along with 4 others who they were happy about at 50/60k.

Fecking hell, so United could sign Vidal, Di Maria, anyone, and it's still a mess?
"proper clubs" never complete transfers late in the windows? The likes of Bayern never do that?

Two points:

1) If our approach to the transfer market is wrong then we shouldn't allow a few last minute signings stop us recognizing it and improving things for the future. I think that's common sense, no? If we ignore the difficulties we've had up to now we risk having these issues re-emerge in the future at a point when we are unable to salvage things with last minute deals. After all, we haven't found ourselves in this position through years of brilliant investment in the team, there's plenty of room to improve on our recent history in the transfer market.

2) There's nothing wrong with having to make late deals, plenty of top clubs find themselves in that position. However, we found ourselves in a position where we needed to complete maybe three of them in the final two weeks of the window just to cover gaps in the squad. If any top club found themselves in that position I'd suggest they hadn't approached things properly, let alone one that was anticipating a summer of major investment from a long way out.

Are u serious? Clearly he deserved his new contract unlike nani. He is always in the 11 for me.
Because we don't have any more
Defenders? He shouldn't be ahead of smalling or Evans. There's a reason he played most games at right back or midfield and that's because he's far too rash as a centre back and makes too many mistakes.

It was the lack of spending leading up to it that has been so poor though. Now we've got to bandage up a team that should have never been allowed to decay to this point in the first place. What other top side would have persisted with the likes of Nani, Anderson, Cleverley, etc or even Giggs & Scholes for so long? As a result, we've got a squad with some areas that are ready to win now and others that just are not good enough (yet? Never will be? Not sure).
The big question is why have jones , Evans , smalling , cleverley , young , Valencia and nani regressed so much over the last 18 months ?
Is it the fact that they have continuously been played out of position ?
Is it because other more established stars such as scholes , vida , evra , giggs , rooney , rvp and rio covered for there frailties ?
Or did ferguson get them playing to there max ?
The fact that we are were we are now as a squad is due to the fact that the young players have not come to the fore !
I find it alarming that the cry now is for these players to be replaced in the next couple of transfer windows .
Surely we should be looking at the coaching set up to a cause of all this .
Like it or not we will have to put all our faith in LVG to turn it around but its gonna take time .

Jones and Smalling haven't regressed over last 18 months. Jones showed individual improvement when fit even last season whether it be vs Bayern or Arsenal. Smalling has stalled a bit but won't say he has regressed either and at CB put in some good performances like Shakthar away.

Cleverley, Nani, Young, Valencia yeah. They have regressed.

I'm sure Arsenal, Chelsea, City and Liverpool would all love Jones in their squad.

None of the top clubs would buy him.

The rest wouldn't match the wages he's on now.

Spurs, Everton and almost all clubs below that. And they can pay decent wages these days.

Sunderland are paying Rodwell 64k reportedly ffs.

If we can pay Luke Shaw close to 100 k then of course more experienced players like Jones have the right to ask for 75 k. That's why I wasn't fine with giving Shaw that much. Problem here are Shaw's wages, not what Jones is demanding.

I do still believe in Jones and Smalling and think they will come good. I just don't think they are good enough yet to compensate for the absolute crapfest that has been our midfield for years. That was what Rio and Vidic provided - even when it was just one of them, they were able to help their partners (including Evans) raise their respective games. This benefitted DDG too, especially as he likes to stay on his line and rely on the defenders to do more of the clean-up work.

So with our midfield in its current state - a new-to-league Herrera, a hurt Carrick, a recovering Fletcher, the others - I think we are clearly in a talent/experience gap and that's going to knock on to our defenders and make their jobs tougher. An established, mobile midfielder in front of them would help tremendously especially as they get their feet steady as regular starters at CB. Rojo will be good but again, lot of question marks.

In the second half, we should hopefully see what LVG is all about but I do worry that the early season will hurt our chances greatly if we don't strengthen now.

Doubt he is earning that, a while ago people came with the rumour that he is on 100 k a week, so he would be earning more than Lahm, but he said on Twitter that's not true (dunno how reliable that is tho)

he is still a very good young player who is maturing. United still needs players that sometime goes in recklessly see kean, stamp, scholes. United was blessed with the cultured defending of rio and most of the time vidic who jones was mentored under. The realty is that he is a united player that bleeds for the club so I'm in his corner.

Mirror: Anderson is ready to swap Manchester United for Porto in a deal worth around €7.5million.
