Twenty20 WC

The pitches have been like that for a generation now Sults.

Those countries you mentioned are the best at hosting those events because they're either in the sub-continent, or home to huge ex-pat populations. This ensures a good atmosphere at most of the matches.

FWIW, the organisors at this tournament have learned from their blunders from the 2007 ODI World Cup and are now actively encouraging the locals to bring their instruments and create a carnival feel. Hopefully they've also learned their lesson re: ticket prices, and we'll see a full house for all the Windies games and big crowds for the big games in the next round.

Seems they're getting a free pass into grounds to avoid embarrassment for the organisers. The majority definitely not interested in cricket.

It's been a slow death for WIndies cricket. But the game as a whole's gone that way. . .I've given it up and deleted it from my memory. I can't be doing with this 20/20 bullshit. . .and the huge monies involved in the sport thesedays. It's in a very unhealthy state.

Money is cricket is still no where near the same level as football though so that can not be a problem.

It's a problem when it's being generated by one nation. Money's also the reason why Tests are dying out and 20/20 will succeed(or is succeeding). But as long as the masses get their quick fix eh. . .

My last post on cricket ever. It's dead to me.

I just switched on the TV for the last two overs and wtf was that last over? 5 wicket maiden.

That last aussie over was mad. 5 wickets fell in 6 balls

Fixed it for you, you drama queen.

So how many runs will Australia allow to be beaten by Bangladesh to knock Pakistan out?

Let me know please as I'm rubbish at working these things out.

I do not think all the money coming from one nation is a problem, at least as fara s decline of test matches go. Fundamental problem with test cricket and money is due to its format. But some other things do not help.

If you start airing Premiership matches on Tuesday or Wednesday afternoons, viewer-ship would decline rapidly and you definitely won't see full attendances or even close to that every week.

They need to start experimenting with holding day-night test matches. At least have one session which people can watch in the evenings and always make sure that every test match encompasses Friday, Saturday and Sunday.

They are...they're trying to find a ball which they can use, they've been trialling the pink ball

A couple of clubs in the IPL have bigger wagebills for a 2 month event than United for a 10 month season and this is just the starting point.

There's IPL clubs with bigger wage bills than Manchester United?

That can't be right can it?

IPL 2nd highest-paid league, edges out EPL

If you think that cricketers’ wages in the Indian Premier League don’t measure up to what English Premier League footballers make, think again.

According to the inaugural Annual Review of Global Sports Salaries to be published later this week by sportingintelligence.com, the second highest-paid league, based on first-team salaries on a pro-rata basis, is our very own IPL.

Second only to the American National Basketball Association (NBA) league, whose annual average salary is 2.62 million pounds, the IPL’s average salary, calculated over a year, is 2.5 million pounds. It must be remembered that the league is only played over a six-week period, making what cricketers earn for playing Twenty20 matches astounding.

The third highest-paid is American Major League Baseball (MLB), at 1.82 million pounds while EPL comes in fourth, at 1.46 million pounds.

In the 211-team list currently monitored by average first-team pay, Royal Challengers Bangalore comes in at 12th, at an average of 57,833 pounds a week, standing two places above Manchester United.

Think the figures are just for the weekly period during the event and not compared to overall season of a EPL club.

Yeah I read it a long time ago. Pardon me for that. But its still quite astounding that the average salary of an IPL player is that high and comparable to teams in the epl given the event only runs for 2 months. Those players also get paid for playing domestic and international cricket which fills up the rest of the calender year which again sums upto 10 months and a lot of cricket.
Even so it can only get bigger from here since the IPL has only just finished its 3rd season. And iirc, they are adding more teams for next season ?
More competition = More money.

I am not really happy more money is being poured into IPL or the T20 format. It needed a stabilization period which I hope the current issues associated with IPL will provide.
I don't know how you guys perceive it. But I have really grown tired of watching so many T20 matches.

I've always loathed this format of the game. It is ruining the game. Add money to this format and it only gets worse. As time goes on, why would a player want to toil himself for test match playing 5 days in sometimes ragged conditions while he can earn more playing for 3 hrs where he needs to work much lesser. International and test cricket will die a slow death now. Its also a format which is ideal for an average bits and pieces cricketer.

Its not as if test match cricket was thriving anyway. T20 cricket has come along to speed up the process.

Not wage bills. But for egs, Symonds, Pitersen, Dhoni etc are all on 1.5 million $ for a 3 week event.

ie, 500 000 dollars a week

Why we need to look at it as a weekly bill is because soon the league will grow egged on by players who'd want to play for longer in this tournament.

8 week event. But I agree with your point.

I hardly watched cricket bar the odd Ashes tour. But I'd happily watch the IPL. Quite like it. Don't care much about the T20 WC either.

Fair enough. T20 altogether never worked for me. Doesnt matter if its the IPL or WC.

It was a v.good batting display from England yesterday particularly by Morgan and Wright, just got the wrong end of a end of the Duckworth-Lewis equation in the end.

Do the job against Ireland alter and we'll have still have taken a good deal from the game.

Not that i am totally won over by Twenty20 but where TMS goes i shall listen, for a bit at least.

I have only heard reports however they say Jayawardene was top drawer once again.

England will still win it, Eoin Morgan is an excellent player and will make sure that England score around 125 which should be enough for Ireland

Oh Dear. Morgan is out now

Hope it clears up. Would be a shame to see Ireland in the super 8s in place of England.
