A lot of players that sign for City are interested in becoming part of something new and upcoming. They want to write the history, so I have to disagree with you there on that.

I think that's often used an excuse by players who go to City for the money. In a sense, City are the victims of their failure - they have no prestigious history, so incoming players are not as passionate about the club as they might be on joining Milan, Real, Barca, Ajax, Bayern, Arsenal, United...even Liverpool. The whole concept of the 'exciting new project'/'writing history'/'becoming legends' etc pales in comparison to (for example) signing for a sleeping giant & helping to restore that club to its former glory. Also, of course, these are the days when the word 'ambition' often means 'disguised greed'.

Aguero and Silva both signed with City because neither Barca or Madrid wanted them. Why would they up and move their families simply to play for a club in Manchester that isn't United? City were the only clubs interested in them, were willing to pay what them what ever they wanted, and could pay the transfer fee. Combined with the fact that City now play in the CL, they simply move for a higher pay check with a slightly better chance of winning a trophy. You can bet that if United has agreed a term, Tevez would have chosen us over City, if Milan wanted Balotelli, he'd had signed for them over City. If Madrid wanted Silva, he'd have signed for them and if Barca wanted Aguero, he'd sign for them. All of this regardless of what city offer.

But the fact is, Silva and Aguero were not wanted by some of the other big clubs, and Silva and Aguero joined a club that have astronomical ambition. They ARE in the CL, they are regarded as one of the best teams in the PL, and they do have money to splash out on other world class players.

At the end of the day Aguero and co left a much better tax system, they have come to England where they have to pay 40% of their earnings to the tax man. So City will have had to have doubled Aguero's wages just for him to be earning around what he was on before he moved.

No player would pay anything close to 40% tax.

The reason why Silva and Aguero were not wanted was because they would have been surplus to requirement, but had they been wanted, they would have moved in the blink of an eye. They were both at smaller clubs, with both clubs needing to sell and neither getting a look in at a big club. They probably could have gone to spurs or what ever else 'juventus for example' but chose City because they were offered massive wages. Their ambition is solely driven by a pay check at city. Sure they may have the chance to win a trophy or two, but it's not the ideal club for a top player to be at. Shit owners, shit manager, shit coaching staff and a shit load of mercenary cnuts can only lead to a cluster feck of epic proportions. Sniejder is one of the biggest names in european football. He earns a boat load at Inter and plays with top players that play as much for the team as themselves. The attraction of city for him would be minimal to say the least. United and the likes have something city can't offer and thats why great players will always be attracted. Thats why Phil Jones, Smalling and Young told Liverpool and Arsenal to feck off.

City are a better club to join right now than Juventus or Tottenham, they offer CL football and will definitely improve because of the money involved. They will never be picked ahead of Barcelona, Real Madrid, United and such but they have already gone above a few large sides in terms of attractiveness.

Anyway, we are already more than halfway through the transfer window and Tottenham haven't signed anyone, have they? Has Redknapp died or something?

Friedel and that U16 Ivory Coast striker.

You simply can't say that.

They'll be close to winning the league this year and will probably do alright in the CL. They have massive sums of money to spend on top talent and will improve - probably competing for big trophies from now on.

Players are much less interested in the past history of an club than they are in the future, and like it or not City may have a very big future with plenty of silverware.

Look at the players City have signed and tell me whether they had any realistic choice to go and play at bigger clubs? The only attractiveness of City is a big pay check and probably a chance of realistically winning more then just the Europa League.

Either they sign for city for the pay check or because they have no other offers from other clubs - its unlikely to be both.

Fact is, while players may previously have joined City for a payday that all changes the moment they qualify for the CL.

With the obvious exception of Barca they've got as good chance of winning the CL as most other top sides and will almost certainly be up and around the top of the table come the business end of the season.

Any potential acquisition of any club consides a lot of things I presume - the clubs chances of success, location, strength of the league they play in and of course money - as is the prospect of other top players joining.

You're engaging in idle speculation about Sneijder in particlar saying there's nothing to attract him to City. Fact is that they have as much to attract him as United or any other top club - CL football and the chance of winning domestic silverware.

Aguero or any other player may dream of Barca but so what, half the United side probably do as well but not all players can play there. It doesnt follow from that, that the player only signed for City for the money.

Anyone who thinks City are only getting player for the money are naive - it was said about Chelsea years ago but nobody bats an eyelid if they sign top players now - largely due to the success they've had.

HowardNurse replied to me when I said to him United are lying to him

It came up on my phone but I can't find it on twitter.

I think you'll find that's the real Evra, my good man.

Ah he sent me a DM. Cheeky bastard. That way I can't reply.

Full flow convo now. With him DMing me and me mentioning him to reply. Weird.

I told him the last people Fergie would trust is the BBC and he stopped replying

Be interested to know which ones you think are dreaming about it....

I would imagine a few might fancy playing for Barca or Real Madrid at some stage in their careers.

Its not to say that any player isn't committed to the cause, nor that they'll give anything less than 100% - but what player wouldnt be tempted by a move to Barca when they're arguably supposedly the "greatest team of all time"? Foreign players especially given the weather and lifestyle.

I wouldnt be surprised to see Evra or Vidic pitch up in Spain at some point, all things considered.

Sky Sports spaculation, but not thread worthy so it can go in here.

Speculation:
Evening Chronicle claims Newcastle United could be ready to make a move for Manchester United's squad man Gabriel Obertan.

Friedel and that U16 Ivory Coast striker.
Plus another young striker - Christian Ceballos.

Still, all in all very quiet so far at Spurs. I expect that to change shortly.
