Paying the best part of 50 million for three players that aren't top 4 standard doesn't seem like particularly good business to me. Even when you discount the ridiculous fees, those players are barely better than what Liverpool already have.

Carroll and Henderson - while being expensive could undoubtedly be top four players, especilly Carroll who if he can stay fit and be fully committed is capable of giving even the best defenders nightmares. Alongside Suarez (who I think could be a revelation next year they´ll be dangerous.

Clearly Liverpool can´t attract "top four players" - as they´re not in the top four, but Downing had as good a season last year as Young and is versatile, always useful in a long season.

They´re building a squad more than capable of challenging for the top four and if they do get iin there then maybe the owners will splash bigger sums on top players. Clearly they´re not frightened to back their manager.

I think that part of the negotiating involved in this proposed transfer deals with raising the UK profile of Mrs Sneijder. As trivial as that may sound, it's prospectively one of the clinchers in the deal, perhaps.

Goal.com has NOT said there has been a bid OR that Sneijder has agreed personal terms OR that he will join #MUFC. But there HAVE been talks

A fee being privately agreed is different to an official bid. Big deals are complex. Now for Sneijder silence - until next time.

BREAKING NEWS: Falcao signs renewed & improved contract with FC Porto until 2015. Release clause raised from 30m to 45 million euros.

TheInformed_ Il Informato
The rumours that #MUFC aren't interested in Sneijder are completely false. David GIll DID meet up with Moratti earlier this week.

United are willing to pay up to €40m for Sneijder, but will try and persuade him to take a pay-cut. (Currently on 190k per week).

I die a little bit from inside, when I see tweets from those people who aren't included I created in the list. I spent a lot of time creating that list :(

Sorry I'll keep that in mind from now :)

@howardnurse you're right about Sneijder deal, Howard. #MUFC won't sign him.

Christ, it comes to something when even respected journalists change their tune more often than a DJ with St Vitus Dance...

Obviously means we've wrapped up the deal to sign our primary target, and we have to pull out of our interest in Sneijder.

If I've made this connection, so will the 'papers. Expect a story along those lines soon.

Lol his response to questions about what's changed is "That's all I can say".

None of these guys actually know what's going on for real. They all have their sources and it seems none of their sources have any real info.

My good friend ralph250 from the newbs made a similar connection. I, on the other hand, didn't, because I'm a leading moron.

Right :)

Lots of tweets about Sneijder. Fergie press conf in Seattle in a couple of hours. Might clear up the situation. Probably won't, though.

someone called "HughesInsider" posted this earlier, though it now seems to be gone again!

Bolton have made an official approach to Manchester United about taking Danny Welbeck on a season long loan #BWFC #MUFC

Makes sense to me.. We have way too many strikers..

Rooney, Hernandez, Berbatov, Owen, Welbeck, Macheda, Diouf.

Would think Macheda would be more suitable for them.

Based on? Welbeck is pretty much exactly the same as Sturridge who they had last season.

I'd much rather Welbeck go on loan again and Macheda given the chances at OT

I think that ultimately Macheda will have more of a chance to succeed at OT than Welbeck. I think Macheda has more technical ability, and Welbeck will just never get the chance. I rate them both, Welbeck is a great finisher, but I just don't see BOTH of them getting a chance at OT soon enough for them to want to wait around.
