How are papers allowed to get away with that though? It's such an incredibly shit story, the fact it even made it to print is mind boggling :wenger:

No ones even getting remotely excited at the Messi rumours coz its just such obvious BS

My word. Isn't sports journalism the easiest job in the world???

I imagine sports journalism is pretty much like playing Madlibs

[Team] join the race to sign [Player] for [Fee]

[Team1] and [Team2] are set to miss out on [Player] as he favours a move to [Team3]

Etc.

But, but, why only if we fail to get Ronaldo. Cannot we have both? And while we're at it, Lewa, Bale and THiago wouldn't hurt.

This is a tweet from yesterday I'll concede but I haven't seen this notion that he'll want a clause similar to the one in his Barcelona contract discussed anywhere 'round these parts.

As if Ronaldo coming back wasn't silly enough, they had to go one step sillier...

If we can pay £50m and give Rooney for Messi that will be some good bit of business, hopefully they make it happen.

Ok then.

Messi has always wanted to play for David Moyes, he was always going to sign for us at some point

Some Stoke-player would probably break one (or both) of his legs within 2 months of arriving in England. Messi would regret making a fool of Huth and Shawcross in the opening 20 mins

It has been discussed heavily.

Heavily as in a few posters saying "give him the clause"?

I think that's player power going a little bit too far. Don't see why clubs like Barcelona or United should consider that sort of thing. It puts pressure on managers to use players that they may feel are sub-optimal at a given moment to fit contract criteria. And can work in so many ways against the clubs. An unhappy player can just stop making an effort in order to be dropped and see his clause substantially lowered.

I am in favor of release clauses, but this is going a tad too far. This whole situation has been an embarrassment for Barça and I don't understand why other big clubs should want to follow suit. This is still a sport.

Yeah, that. Or about 20 pages in the Thiago-thread.

Sorry, couldn't bother (and forgot about that thread), just judged the few posts below what Damien linked to and threw my two cents here.

That's good to hear. I hope it's the dominating opinion.

Apparently, I was talking to Aiden McGeadys cousin here on holiday...he off to Sunderland. He seems full of shit but I wantcto he #itk go dammit!!

Combining the "twitter transfer thread" and the "I'm drunk" thread...impressive!

I think Welbeck has more to his all-round game than Messi to be honest, what with his physical stature etc. Pointless to waste money like that when we already have the talent here.
