No idea about this stuff but they'd just tell us where to go if there wasn't one. Of course he could just be referring to the clubs signing on the dotted line as a bit of work.

I think someone on here said that the club can make it quite difficult for the buyers or something (is that what happened with Martinez and Bayern?)

That was me but I have no idea what I'm talking about tbh. Was just trying to sound erudite.

If that first one is true, then rumours of the Buyout clause must be bullshit.

Nope. Sandro Rosell fielded questions about it last week and defended it's existence.

If there was no buy-out clause, there's simply no way Barca would be letting him leave, at least not for any amount that we'd be willing to pay. A number of people in the club have talked publicly about the fact that they all really want him to stay.

Yes that's what I would think as well. I just hope if we buy him there's no buy back clause.

As far as I'm aware, unless Thiago asks for the clause himself, Barca don't have any power to negotiate anything that goes into his contract.

A lot of these reports contradict each other. If there is no buy out clause we wouldn't get him for £17mil. If there is one, then we don't have to deal with Barcelona in any way, other than say "here's your £17mil, we're taking your player. Cheers."

Worrying that those "confirming" this deal don't seem to have a clue what the story is.

You lot need to read up on buyout clauses. Spanish clubs make theirs a bit more complicated. We will no doubt reach the buyout fee but Barcelona can add this tax on the deal which will raise the total price. We know United likes to get deals for best price. If anything, niggly details will have to be sorted out but nothing to worry about. Martinez had to put some of his own money in I believe to help force the transfer through (bayern reimbursed him?). It's not the same situation with Goetze because the release clauses in Germany are much more straightforward. Hence, it will take some time for MUFC & Barcelona to agree on the details. Barcelona will make it as difficult as possible because they know their fans won't be that their club is letting such a talented player leave for peanuts.

We need to just cough up the extra bit of cash to make this deal happen. Even if it 3M in tax. Getting him for a song anyway. We run the risk of other clubs getting involved if we faff about too much. Especially if City lose out on Isco. Just tie it up United! FFS

I'm confident we'll tie it up. Knowing how our club operates, it probably won't be announced til next week.

When it says work needed between the clubs it's probably more a PR issue, United and Barca have always been on good terms but they probably are not happy that we are using a poor choice on their part to get a quality player on the cheap from them. I mean look how they acted through the Fabregas saga, we probably just want to make sure the move is smooth as opposed to a one where the clubs become enemies in the way we have with Spurs over the transfers dealing we did with them.

I like this explanation.

If the reaction of the Barca fans is anything to go by, he's probably worth at least £20m anyways. I'd be devastated if we lost him now, due to a few mill.

"This is what you get for taking Pique on the cheap. Thanks"
