Never in a million years will Rooney move to Arsenal. Firstly, £20m bid is pretty laughable considering we gave them more for van Persie who was older and had less time remaining on his contract. Secondly, he definitely wants to win trophies and he won't win many at Arsenal, and finally - they'll never be able to afford his wages without restructuring their wage bill which they didn't want to do even for their legend van Persie.

Sshhh..let the guy dream.

So Johnson reckons that Ronaldo is DEFINITELY NOT happen, Anderson is DEFINITELY gone and that he'd bet his house that Rooney is gone

It's just his opinion about Ronaldo.

FWIW, if Ronaldo wants to leave Madrid, then ours will be his first destination IMO.

They're in a much better position than you though. Without all the manager frenzy they'd probably be up there with City (still some way behind us as we've been immense this season) and their squad is quite young - Mata, Oscar, Hazard, Ramires, Luiz, Azpilicueta and Curtois will be there for a long time and most of them should further improve. In reality they only need a competent manager (which they seem to have sorted out with Mourinho) and a couple of signings (which Mourinho will have taken care of with a blank cheque book from Abramovich in the Summer, I fully expect them to spend £100m+).

I agree, to an extent. I still think they have quite a few problems defensively - the amount of goals they've conceded this season is unlike Chelsea teams of time gone by. You may be right about the manager issue - if you look at Chelsea's first team, it should really be competing at the very top of the league, but for whatever reason, it isn't.

Just as an aside, I don't think Arsenal are genuinely in for Rooney, nor would Rooney want to come, but his value is overstated on this forum. If he wants to leave, and United are willing to sell, the selling position isn't a strong one. It would be for no more than £25m. Just because you massively 'overspent' on RVP doesn't mean everyone should go for that price.

If Rooney is in the market, clubs like PSG and Madrid would be in for him. No way is he going for 25mil, that is absolutely certain.

If PSG and Madrid both go in for him, maybe.

Realistically though, if he is really set on leaving and you can't keep him, you can't see United being able to command £40m.

That is, of course, if there's only one buyer and no bidding war. I'm sure there'll be more than one club interested in Rooney's services.

Why not? We're talking of Wayne Rooney here. He is one of the best players in the world and if available, its hardly going to be a case where one club is in for him and he goes quietly. There are bound to be multiple clubs in for him in which case the price will go up. Even if he wants to leave, it doesnt mean we simply accept whatever we're offered. He's one of our best assets and we'l ensure we get as much as possible for him.

Indeed. I accept that.

I don't think he is one of your best assets, to be honest. It would be a symbolic sale more than an actually relevant one footballing wise. You've got more than enough players to compensate for his departure. He's no longer in the top echelon of players in the world either.

For once Alistair might have a point. I can see the price being closer to £25m than £40m.

But his wages are so ridiculous (the Times implied he is on more than £250k a week) that it would still be cost effective to get rid.

yeah, Rooney's worth is no more than 25 million, riiiiiiiight.

Al's right. If we weren't looking to sell Rooney, and he had 4 years left on his contract, he'd be worth £40+ million. But if we do decide to sell him (and he wants to go), with only 2 years left on his contract, between £20-30 mil is probably what we'd get.

I disagree. I think we will still get in excess of £30m.

huh? Seriously underrating rooney here am afraid. He's still the 2nd best striker we have after RVP and with his versatility, one of our most important players. More importantly, at Real, he'd be their best striker. Ditto for many other clubs as very few have the luxury of a RVP. With Higuain leaving, there's no doubt Real will be in the market for a striker. Rooney will be someone they'l easily fork out a lot for if we're willing to sell. I agree with the last bit though about us having enough quality to compensate for his departure unlike the last saga which is why am not too fussed as long as we get a good price.

I think we will get at the very least what we paid to acquire RVP. He's quality and has two years left on his current contract.

Sensational stuff from @GuillemBalague reporting that deal for Manuel Pellegrini to become Manchester City manager has been concluded.

Report says Txiki Begiristain has reached agreement and Pellegrini will arrive this summer, with star player Isco. http://futbol.as.com/futbol/2013/05/10/mas_futbol/1368219513_326123.html

Galatasaray apparently close to sign John Terry for 8m € bid, according to Daily Mail

Iv seen quite a lot of Isco to Man City rumours lately, it would be a shame for us because I think he's got the potential to be one of the best players in Europe and would be ideal replacement for Rooney (with Kagawa behind the striker)

There really is a major story a day these days. Fergie, Rooney, Pellegrini. And the season isn't even over yet!

8m seems a bit of a low price for The People's Racist.

Perhaps Chelsea are trying to send him as far away as possible.

Not sure if it's transfer related but SSN saying some 'big news' to come from Old Trafford soon. It could be bollocks, but don't shoot the messenger.
