Trump/Russia/SDNY investigation

I doubt I’m the first to point it out, but Trump installs a sycophant, tweets about “the inner workings of the Mueller investigation” and then finally gets around to answering questions he has had on his desk for months and months.

Looks like he’s found a way to avoid that perjury trap.

Very possible, and perhaps this is how he avoids publicly fighting a subpoena. But it will be a temporary win I think. Whitaker is probably tasked with a daily intake of all things Mueller in order to feed it back to Trump but I don't know how much of what's already in place can now be stopped without eventually coming to light.

I think Trump and his lawyers main fears were him perjuring himself when answering Mueller’s question. They don’t know what or how much detail Mueller knows.

If they get the chance to answer all his questions with the benefit of knowing they won’t be caught lying it’s a huge advantage to them.

If Whitaker has indeed given Trump an inside track to aid him here, it’s surely got to be seen as obstruction of justice.

The NRA are going to be thrilled

He most likely answered all of the questions by saying that he couldn’t remember the details. That way he can’t be accused of lying if his memory suddenly returns.

Can’t for the life of me understand the weird thing that is the American legal system. He makes the point that it is illegal (ie a crime) for a senior governmental official not to have released his financial disclosure report by, at the latest, 120 days after the date of his appointment. One year has gone by and it appears that Whittaker has not filed this report.

Why has no-done done anything about it? Blithering strange legal system where WH staff can just ignore laws. Do American laws not to apply to WH staff? Are all WH staff above the law then?

I can't begin to imagine why a person would do this to themselves. There's no obvious gain.

Imagine if Trump pardons the little sh't!
Talking of pardoning....

The Supreme Court wrote that the President may exercise the pardon power after the commission of the criminal offense, before or during legal proceedings, and after conviction and judgment. In fact, so long as the President grants a pardon before conviction, then doing so prevents any of the “penalties and disabilities consequent on conviction from attaching” to the pardoned person.

This article explains the pardoning process and basically says that Trump can pardon anyone involved in this investigation and pardoning extends to every federal offence known to the law with the exception of impeachment.

So maybe Wohl broke a state law?

That's how Nixon was pardoned. It's a disgrace such provision exists .

I suspect someone has put him between a rock (federal prison) and a hard place (death).

Over what I'm not sure but it strikes me as something that could've happened to someone so obviously in so far over their head.

The only thing that should really wipe out a conviction is the evidence of the convicted being innocent and is then presented and accepted by an appeals court.
Presidential pardons should be reserved for people who have been incarcerated due to the justice system utterly failing.

Right now I hope that Mueller is treating this administration the way they should be treated, as a criminal organization. Slow and steady leaving no wriggle out room. I think that the length of time being taken is also a good thing. It indicates that it's not a an investigation in name only and it's obviously not working with the administration being investigated the way the 9/11 commission was.
My expected outcome is that it uncovers so much fraud and money laundering, foreign and domestic, that it leaves absolutely no choice for a few dozen Senate Republicans to say enough is enough. Do a Nixon or there will be no choice but to proceed with prosecution maybe the choice given. I also believe that the likes of Robert's, Alito and maybe Gorsuch will have no choice but to side with the law on the books.
Wishful thinking I know but something has to give. What we are watching now is intelligent adults on both sides just standing still while this guy lies and lies and lies. Is America such a fecking ass kissing nation to percieved wealth and power that it would let a grown man away with making shit up right in front of their faces? Right now the answer is yes, Newsom and Brown proved that the other day when they just looked at the ground when this guy was talking about raking 33 million acres.
He needs to be called out to his face on global TV about this shit. I don't even let my 5 year old get away with the shit people let this 70 year old get away with. Forget Russia, this family have committed enough white collar crime it should leave no doubt as to the outcome. Piss tape would be sweet though.

That's precisely what he's doing. He's prosecuting the Trump cabal as an organized crime syndicate by attempting to go in concentric circles and flip lower level goons to testify against the next level up, until it eventually reaches Trump himself, which we're not too far off from at this point. It started with the likes of Pappadopolous and Page and is now at the Stone and Don Jr. level...only one more level to go after that.

Some of the replies to this tweet are mind boggling. People are so brainwashed they can't see the wood for the trees.

Don't forget that a good number of them are bots driving narratives.

Flynn, Manafort, Cohen, Papadopoulos, etc. Yeah no collusion. Meatheads.

These folk genuinely believe all these guys were framed by the Obama Deep State. To judge by his Twitter feed, Papadopoulos believes it himself.
