Trump/Russia/SDNY investigation

The Guardian is doing some interesting reporting on how tech is getting huge inducements to set up factories and HQs in cities that suffer significant tax revenue loss as a result. Basically another way that poor people get fecked in this country.

I thought Giuliani came off legit in CNN's state of the union from sunday, saying that Cohen should cooperate if it's in his best interest. Anything else would be a hint towards an admission of guilt so nothing wrong with that. It's not going to change Cohen's decision anyway so no point in making a fuss over it in a freakin TV show.

I don't think Rudy knows what legit is.

Doesn't Giuliani's advice contradict his words on the President re: the investigation?

Legit? It's just posturing and playing to the base. As you say "anything else is an admission of guilt". They've been making plenty of them already. "Don't look at my tax returns", "don't check the Deutsche Bank accounts", "I sacked Comey because of the handling of the Hillary case, actually I mean I sacked him because of the Russia thing".

They were calling the public's bluff on Cohen and Cohen's attorney rightly called him out on it. It's bad news for Trump.

Legit in the sense that he made the most out of the situation he's finding himself in, in that particular interview. Apologies for being unclear. Giuliani's job at the moment is to go public with the message that Trump has done nothing wrong while avoiding more mistakes and leading the chase in discrediting Muellers reputation. The last thing obviously is highly unethical if done without evidence. That said he did a good job in that CNN interview although Dana Bash seemed out of her depth big time.

I’m sceptical of Cohen’s intentions. He’s being very vocal, I can’t help but think it’s either a ruse or a cry for help to Trump.

Its all about self-preservation. He will say whatever is necessary to lessen the risk of prison time, which in this case will involve singing like a canary to the feds.

Isn't he subjected to the lawyer confidentiality or is Muller's investigation above it?

Some of their interactions are apparently not covered under attorney/client.

Thanks, it's interesting because Cohen knows probably everything or close to it.

Good read, thanks for sharing. What I don't understand is why Avenatti agreed to let the journalist accompany him and write such a piece. While it does fit into the media strategy he is executing, it is also creating more exposure to opposition attacks. Looks to me like Avenattis main advantage, despite talking sense and being composed in front of the camera, is his white vest. Maybe he indeed doesn't have any skeletons in his closet (or only minor ones), though the article seems to hint otherwise, could also be that his ego got the better of him here.

Not sure the author really liked him either. Why would you open the piece by pointing out a crumpled vein on his left temple? Or this exchange:

[context: Avenatti released a memo suggesting a Russian advanced the money Cohen used to pay off Daniels. Media picked it up. Went viral.]

But for the moment, Avenatti was at the center of the news universe. His mailbox swelled with interview requests. In his Twitter mentions, canonization proceedings were underway.

“There is a God,” one follower suggested. “He sent us Avenatti.”
“You and Stormy,” another said, “may be the saviors of our democracy.”

Avenatti pecked at the keyboard: “We are just getting started. ... ”
“Should I send it?” he asked me. His finger, trembling with adrenaline, hovered above the laptop. “I’m going to send it.”

So the 'ard guy on TV has some insecurity to him also? I'm probably reading too much into that, but found it interesting nonetheless.

There are certain communications that aren't covered by the privilege and there are certain acts/events that can trigger the possibility for a lawyer to disclose information normally protected.

Claims he's running for President so he is obviously going to happily accommodate any media exposure that comes his way - from the Stormy case, to the kids on the Texas border, to now going to England to protest against Trump. He knows how to springboard off prominent issues to promote his own brand and political ambitions.

In addition to that, and I think this might have come as a shock to Trump, being retained as a lawyer doesn’t automatically provide absolute immunity to all forms of communications between the attorney and his client.

It covers material relevant to criminal trials in which the lawyer is representing/represented the client or provided/providing counsel.

It seems that half the stuff Trump employed Cohen to do falls under a Boss/Henchman or business partner relationship rather than attorney client.

For example, if Cohen was to partake in something illegal at Trump’s request or in Trump’s interest, he can’t claim he was doing so as his attorney. There’s nothing in the bar for example about facilitating money laundering on behalf of your client.

That’s where Trump could be in for a shock if Cohen flipped.

I don’t think he’s a good candidate for President, he’d make a hell of a majority whip in the senate or congress for the democrats. I really think he’s got great instincts on how to handle Trump and co.

He obviously wouldn't make a good President. If he's interested in politics then he should look at becoming a member of congress and take on Dana Rohrbacher who is the congressman in his home district.

Christ, that Russiaphile? What a match up.

Well put, I am lazy about explaining this stuff sometimes

It’s a big step for him. This past election was the 1st presidential one he’s been old enough to vote in. He did like 90 odd percent of Americans do in 1st elections and vote for their parent’s political party. He’s now moved past that.

I’m almost certain he’s going to vote for the Democrat running for Governor in SC.

So the big question I have to ask is how do his conversations with his/your parents go nowadays?

How do yours go?

I would love to see Gowdy's personal texts and emails during the 7,000 Benghazi hearings. I fecking hate Republicans.

How the feck is Gowdy allowed this much time, especially with that hair and bum fluff

Is this really what these dickheads have to discredit Mueller's investigation. Its like blaming a bumper sticker for a fatal car accident.
