Trump/Russia/SDNY investigation

Trump tweeted this before the NY Times story dropped, so he must've known it was about to get published.

Trump was 100% the one who leaked it. It's a letter his lawyer ssent in January, clearly they got nowhere with that argument. I'd bet Trump wants his cable news flunkies to focus on these talking points.

Interesting for him to suddenly be publicly distancing himself from Manafort. Especially on the heels of the whole "the president can do whatever he wants" arguments making the rounds now.

I'd say the answer is pretty simple though really isn't it?

If they weren't under the impression that Trump himself is in on it then he's a notoriously unreliable person to trust with such information thereby setting up the issue of disrupting the investigation that way.

If they were under the impression that Trump himself is guilty then you simply wouldn't tell him because he's part of the investigation.

Just that - to go on TV and be a propagandist clown on his behalf.
Eggs actly. Throw out a few comments, get everyone in a tailspin and have them come up with the crazy scenarios. Classic.
It’s even the main headline on the beeb. Ffs!

Ok make it say this - "I, President Donald J. Trump, hereby pardon myself for any crimes I may or may not have committed in the past and may or may not commit in the future."

This would seem to suggest that Trump has heard that Manafort has decided to cooperate with the investigation perhaps?

Sure you can. Ford pardoned Nixon didn’t he? There really are no limits on the Presidential pardon other than it having to be for federal crimes. The constitution leaves it insanely broad.
It appears that you are right. That's an unbelievably broad power. Thankfully he can't pardon himself from impeachment.

It’s a terrifyingly broad power, and I think the only reason it’s survived so long is because there were always conventions that traditional politicians wouldn’t break. Now we’re in an age where those conventions are being shattered left, right and center by the White House and the Senate, and suddenly what’s written on paper really, really matters again.

If Trump falls like he should, I’d expect that constitutional power to be re-examined and seriously consideration given to an amendment. It’s just too powerful for any one person.

Yes, scary. You can create a dictatorship with this power.

The president can pardon himself, I think.

From wiki:

Following the release of the smoking gun tape, Nixon's position had become untenable. In his autobiography A Time to Heal, Ford wrote about a meeting he had with Alexander Haig before Nixon's resignation. Haig was explaining what he and Nixon's staff thought were Nixon's only options. He could try to ride out the impeachment and fight against conviction in the Senate all the way, or he could resign. His options for resigning were to delay his resignation until further along in the impeachment process, to try and settle for a censure vote in Congress, or to pardon himself and then resign. Haig told Ford that some of Nixon's staff suggested that Nixon could agree to resign in return for an agreement that Ford would pardon him.

When Trump is finally indicted, is he going to claim that he was 'very late to the campaign' too? 'Cos, apparently, everyone else was...
