Trump/Russia/SDNY investigation

Imagine a media person asking Giuliani something along, "You relied on informants when cracking organized crime, correct?"

"Is it not permissive when a presidential candidate's inner circle is collaborating with a foreign adversary?"

"Well what if this had been Hillary's campaign?"

The Cuomo interview was fairly telling about Giuliani. He thinks the things he said about Starr and Clintion in the 90s doesn't apply to Trump and Mueller today....without providing any substantive reason as to why.

To be fair to Giuliani he is Trumps lawyer and as such is only bound by the interest of his client and it‘s his job to represent them in the best possible manner for the mandate he‘s given. So I think it‘s unfair to hold him to politics standards on hypocrisy when he‘s doing what the system wants and needs him to do.

The WaPo and NY Times provided enough information about the informant to where it was easy for some to figure out.

I think @Adisa means any idea who leaked to the NYT and WaPo. All bets are on an aide of Nunes or Gowdry.

I'm not interested in the hypocrisy angle (even though it is obviously invoked by bringing up his views on this) as much as to illustrate how delusional he is in the present and why that's a bad thing for Trump's case. Trump can be subpoenaed and he can be made be dragged into an interview with Mueller.

Probably someone from the GOP side who wanted to make this a big deal. That said, both the Times and Wapo have a pretty comprehensive sourcing and I'm guessing they cross referenced it with other sources before going to print.

Delusional seems a strong word for a position that, going from a recent vox article citing legal experts on the matter, isn‘t refuted. There is a lot that supports that he can be called to an interview though.

Still they could legally challenge such a subpoena and it could go to the SC which wouldn’t be possible regarding an already settled issue - if I understand the US system correctly.

Even if Giuliani is just holding this stance pro forma to gain leverage against Mueller on that specific issue I fail to see how it‘s necessarily a bad strategy let alone delusional.

He's just posturing as a negotiating tactic with Mueller about the parameters of the interview. If Mueller wants more time with Trump then Rudy will play the "We don't have to do this at all so be happy with less time" card.

If he's dumb enough to not have Trump testify then he will only lengthen the time of the investigation by at least 6 months to a year, at a time when Trump desperately wants to it end. So its in Trump's incentive to do the interview sooner rather than later.

What's wrong with that from Giuliani's POV?

Nothing. He's just not admitting that's what he's doing. He's instead off on a propaganda campaign to discredit the rule of law by flogging nonsense about FBI agents in the Trump campaign.

Wouldn‘t work if he admitted it. I agree with your second point, that‘s disgraceful.

I have watched a good part of that 40mins Cuomo interview and I must say that he handled it pretty much allright imo, levels above the guys Trump brought on before.

I think he prepared knowing that he was going into enemy territory. It's when he's been on Fax that he's made a complete arse of himself.

Really looks like a lot of nations/foreign leaders didn't like Hillary.

I'm sure if anyone else was running on the republican ticket they wouldn't have offered help knowing that they would get firmly knocked back. They found the perfect combo of opportunism and stupidity in the Trump campaign and went to town on it.

Is this investigation actually going anywhere? Seems like it's been ongoing forever.

He just came in sat down ,drank coffee and did his party piece from The Fockers. Hardly worth it really.
A little off topic, but I think it's kind of cute how nervous he appeared to be, when he first did Mueller on SNL. Such a legend and still, he was visibly nervous.

Again, I fail to see how Trump *doesn't* have a point.

For whatever reason, there was an intelligence agent belonging to his own government*, run by the opposing party, within his campaign. That's almost exactly what is to be feared from a deep state.

*and yes, I get that there are opposing principles here - follow an investigation into something dodgy wherever it goes, versus, democracy > anything else. So, the warrant that set off the original investigation better be fecking airtight.

Maybe he has a point about the deep state. Maybe he looks sketchy for firing the FBI Director for investigating him, and constantly lying.

There's already been 20+ indictments, multiple guilty pleas including by several Trump campaign officials, and the uncovering of a multi-year plan by Russian intelligence operatives to meddle with the US election.

Seems to be going somewhere. This isn't a movie plot.

If its true then he should call for an investigation to be honest.
That's a serious allegation

It’s all been debunked already. He’s just spouting off to undercut the Mueller investigation. If he orders an unmasking of an intelligence asset it may cause the likes of Rosenstein and Wray to resign, which is something he wants. All his actions are at this point an underhanded way to delegitimizate the investigation.

Perhaps when they all refuse, he will make the move to fire them one by one

That's the objective. He know firing Mueller would make Republicans turn on him so he is engaged in an alternative two pronged strategy to discredit him from within. The first prong involves a demagogic propaganda campaign in the media through his robots on Fox and the 2nd involves putting pressure on key government officials to resign (Sessions, Rosenstein, Wray) in order to replace them with agreeable sycophants who are willing to kill the investigation from within.

Investigations of this magnitude do take forever. I think the one for Nixon was two years long?
Username reminds me of r/FloridaMan :D

Thank you. A very brief summary was what I was looking for.
