Someone on reddit pointed out this is not actually under Muller’s Jurisdiction, it’s a new criminal investigation which has come about from a recommendation by Mueller.
This is what I was saying a while back, sacking Mueller will have no effect. He’s going to have a bunch of state prosecutors on standby to take over dozens and dozens of investigations if he’s removed.
I think he passed this one over because he knew the scrutiny it would get from Trump and co.

Not sure I was as accurate as Pexbo, but fairly sure I've said before that, yeah, Mueller will have backup plans/alternative means in place to ensure that if Trump does manage to get him sacked that the investigation won't just disappear into thin air.

Very probable has nothing to do with Russia, it's another thread Mueller's tugged on and shit's fallen down. What they find in confidential correspondents between Trump's lawyer and Trump might turn up something new that wasn't the reason they seized documents in the first place for. This count be endless, it's not possible to limit the scope of something like this. Trump will absolutely rue the day he fired Comey, without question.
It is under Mueller's original remit. He was tasked with investigating Trump/Russia collusion or any issues that arise out of that. So Cohen, who is steeped in Russia business and has a Ukrainian wife etc., is likely somehow being targetted because Mueller has something on him and wants to use him as the other side of the vice from Manafort to squeeze Trump.
Yeah it’s unlikely to be Russia related but that’s somewhat irrelevant as Mueller’s mandate specifically said to investigate any crimes they come across along the way and from what has come out so far it appears he’s been doing that. That’s why I find it interesting he’s outsourced this one. I think he knows it’s a little close to home to investigate it himself but he feels there’s a level of urgency. Perhaps he predicts a coverup.
Justice correspondent on CNN saying it might not have something to do with the Muller probe. He thinks Muller has uncovered a crime beyond his remit and has asked NY district attorney to investigate.
Yeah I realise that, see my post above. Perhaps under his jurisdiction was the wrong phrase, I mean he’s passed it over to another team despite the fact he does have the jurisdiction to investigate it himself.

That's entirely likely since Cohen is crooked as feck. If Mueller stumbled onto a crime, even if its unrelated, he is obliged to move on it.
