Television True Detective | Season 2 Spoilers

Nic Pizzolatto Reveals The First Details On ‘True Detective’ Season Two

“Right now, we’re working with three leads. It takes place in California. Not Los Angeles, but some of the lesser known venues of California and we’re going to try to capture a certain psychosphere ambience of the place, much like we did with season one. The characters are all new, but I am deeply in love with all of them. We have the entire season broken out, and I have a couple of scripts, and we’ll probably start casting within the coming month.”

Niiiiice. Reckon we'll get a female lead this season. McConaughey and Harrelson will be hard acts to follow though..

I was thinking the same.... I hope following on from season 1 won't be like following on from SAF!

Something very weird happened to me just hours ago and I still can't gather my thoughts around it.

Was watching True Detective with my buddy , episode 5, and all of the sudden my friend start going through the same scene over and over and over again. Like 10 times. Lights were out by the time we were watching, which made the movie scary enough, and I already got the goosebumps once from the previous episode.

The real scary thing was his answer after I asked him why he kept going over the same 10 sec of the episode.

He told me that as soon as he heard the music in the scene between 25:37 and 25:50min and the young girls in the background he started searching for butterflies in the scene.

And guess what? There they are, very difficult to be spotted if you are NOT looking for them, hanging on the clothes of one of the kids! Then you can see them again clearly during the 26th minute.

Apparently stuff has to do with mass mind control groups and the Monarch Butterfly

Conversation was long and, I have to admit, eye-opening as well. He even told me about this crazy Nazi doctor Joseph Mengele, The Angel of Death.

Anyway, I just wanted to share this and hear your thoughts. Perhaps there will be some people who would like to contribute to the topic I've started. I am really unaware of the mass mind control conspiracy.

My girlfriend fell asleep hours ago but I can't even think about going to bed.

Started watching this last week, and one episode from the end now. Absolutely hooked on it. Can't wait to watch the last episode after work. As for the post above, can't say I noticed or know much about that.

Why did he suddenly pause for butterflies on that particular scene?! I've just had a look, because I'm just that bored, and could only see one butterfly on the little girls dress... I don't feel mind controlled but perhaps that's part of the crazy Nazi doctors plan :nervous:

Unrelated to nazi doctors and butterflies, but a guy I work with was watching True Detective and lost interest with a few episodes to go. I couldn't believe it... Fair enough the final episode, maybe 2, aren't as good as the rest of the series, but he didn't even get that far. First person I've met who didn't get absolutely hooked.

They had mind control techniques in episode two also, when Alexandra Daddario got her tits out. Damn Nazis.

I think fen4e is one of the handlers and some member of Red Cafe is his drone he is trying to activate with all this. The question at hand is the drone a political assassin, an entertainment figure or a sex slave? Or mabye fen4e just needs somebody to wash his delicates for him.

fen4e: Sounds like you've accidently hit the button that switches off your critical thinking skills. Locate button, press it again, and cut your ties with the nutter friend.

Wuuh

Just finished it. Love this show, it did peak with episode 5 I thought. That last episode was so damn creepy though.

Fen4e, you'd be interested in the Franklin case. Check John DeCamp's book.

MONARCH smacks of complete shit to me but MK Ultra sounds plausible.

Wait a minute, MONARCH and MKUltra were birthed from the same CIA programs, Project Bluebird (later ARTICHOKE) in 1950 werent they? Unless im mistaken documents about them were officially released in the late 70s and fiels declassified as late as 2001

No, MKUltra is certain to have existed, but MONARCH is only speculative and based on testimony and a few specious "confirmations" from CIA officials. You are right though that MKUltra was related to ARTICHOKE, and those who say MONARCH existed claim it was part of ARTICHOKE. However there is no official acceptance of that.

Great show, really enjoyed it and I look forward to season two.

McConoughy really won me over with his performance, what a badarse character he was.

Just finished the season there, probably the darkest television show I've ever watched. Some scenes made my skin crawl.

Vince Vaughn is in talks for season two, we'll see how that works out.

I just got dumber by reading your post, this counts as mind control in my book. Congratulations.

Wtf, Vince Vaughn? I liked Old School and Wedding Crashers as much as the next guy, but he simply doesn't possess the acting chops. What a letdown this would be following the amazing performances by Woody Harrelson and Matthew McConaughey.

Apparently Pizzolatto was writing a film for Vaughn which got shelved because of True Detective, they developed a bond and want to work together. So far no one knows other than Pizzolatto though so this is all blind speculation.

Vince Vaughn

Didn't know season2 was going to be a comedy...

This is why we can't have nice things.

Surprised by the Vince Vaughn criticisms, no one has seen Return to Paradise or The Cell apparently - he is most known for comedy but it would be a kneejerk reaction to claim he has no acting chops. Lest you forget, both McCauneghy & Harrelson both were known early on for comedies

Does the second series necessarily have to be in the US? A British setting with these two could be interesting. I know Elba can do a US accent, how is Farrell's?

They already determined the filming locations in California so that's set I guess. Not sure about Farrell's accent either but I thought his role in "In Bruges" would set him up well for the true detective genre.

Also season 1 worked so well because the writer was very familiar with the Southern Louisiana locale and quirks, which made it possible to make it eerily more creepy, I'm not sure if he will be able to replicate that with California now.

Not sure about Colin Farrell as I know he can do drama but it's hard to shake off his unstable bad boy image. He should do a Lethal Weapon reboot, he is tailor made to be Riggs.

There were some rumors awhile ago regarding a female lead for S2, Jessica Chastain's name was brought up which got me excited as I thought she would be a fantastic successor to McConnaughey. I think they ruled it out though.

Those Vince Vaughn rumours seem very strong, going as far as describing his character in the show. I have to say that him being in it would reel back my expectations a lot for season 2. I don't rate him as an actor, but I'm open to being proved wrong. If any show could let someone show heir acting abilities, it's this one. Still tough Idris Elba would be amazing in this show. Sadly those rumours seem to have died down.

Why on earth are people so distrustful of Vince Vaughn doing a decent job. It's not as if actors can choose to get serious, deep roles. Nobody would have said that McConaughey had credibility as a serious actor up until a couple of years ago. I trust that if he's chosen, he's shown himself capable of doing the job they want him to do.
