Trent Alexander Arnold | Real Madrid working on deal (Ornstein)

A lot of them are like this, I know it's only Ireland but I saw that pass live and he pulled off a few more like that for England that day, have seen a few games for Liverpool where he's doing that regularly. Exceptional passer.

looks like a mis hit this.
The fade on the ball is not consistent with the way he struck it. He has hit that to go over the CBs to an inside left position. One of those 'good bad ones'

Done it so often in the Premier League you've had to get a clip of him doing it for England?

They're not that special.
Whatever you think, but anyway if he doesn't pass the eye test then stats show Liverpool are winning the league with a play map showing most of their build-up play comes down his side, that he's their 2nd best player this season by average rating on WhoScored, he has the 3rd most progressive passes in the league.

Why does the biggest team in the world want to sign him then? He’s clearly a good player.

So he’s not a winger because his best ball is from deep?
top 10-15 across europe

Check his numbers on fbref, not just this season but over the years too
I did. I saw him in high percentages of passing and chances created but then saw he’s in the one percent for aerial duals and other aspects to his game. What exactly do you see on fbref that he’s a useful right back?

Is he taking over Brahim Diaz’s role?

It’s hard for me where to see how i can see his chances created etc over the last five years with also listing his defensive duties - can you show how to see that? Or just post a link

Who gives a shit about his defensive duties? There's like 5 better attacking playmakers from the right wing in europe

Other players can defend

Think he'll be fine if you have the likes of Valverde covering his flank for him (ala Henderson) and allow him to do his thing from further up the pitch. If you bought him to defend, first and foremost, then yeah - you will likely have an issue.

But i think because you dominate most of your opponents, the speed of your attack and you not also being averse to direct/counter football at times - he'll be a good addition.

Poor Fede already running a marathon every game and now he needs to run two. Beyond that, TAA really is poor 1v1. Seen him get bullied by pretty much any attacker he comes up against.

You'll like him. He's good enough to defend wingers in La Liga. Antony looks decent there FFS.

They'd genuinely be better off without him.

Also it'll be relief not having his name pop up whenever all time prem lists are mentioned as I assume now that he's gone he'll lose the good esteem of the liverpool friendly media.

Offensively he'll definitely be an upgrade on Carvajal, but defensively, a lot of opponents will enjoy playing against him in La Liga.

Raphinha looks world class in La Liga FFS, let's not get carried away.

He’s had a pretty solid season under Slot. I don’t think he’ll be as exposed defensively as people think in Spain.

So that’s why i asked you if you’re going to play him in the brahim diaz position on the right, not as a defender
When Liverpool won the champions league he didn’t contribute, at all from what i could see. No goals or assists

Doing well this season with 6 and 22-23 was 9 which is great. I just don’t see how he’ll help CL football for Madrid if he’s a RB

Corner taken quickly...?

He's also top scorer (and 2nd in assists) in the CL this year.

Well perhaps that says more about the quality of this year's Champions League than anything else.

The Liverpool fans I work with are pretty hysterical about this, calling Trent a traitor and other daft stuff along those lines.

They’re even comically trying to rewrite history and argue that McManaman and Suarez leaving for Real / Barca in the past didn’t work out for them.

On a general note, I don’t blame any player at any club for running down their contract. In this modern day era, the big name players command huge transfer fees, and PSR regulations have reduced the ability of other European clubs to pay those sums. So running down their contracts down to at least one year of expiry, redirects power away from their clubs on to them, and allows them to exert greater control over which club they end up at.

It makes perfect sense to me.

Some I know cannot wrap their heads around why anyone would ever leave Liverpool to join Madrid

Come on man, when people will stop doing this : "that other League it's shyte thing". Seriously, the over the top fanboyism with leagues it's irrelevant, it's nothing bad to preffer a certain League, yet to think it in terms of players needing to walk on water to play in whatever League on whatever period, it's just not true.

For a good pro player (or even Elite or Phenom alike) to perfom it's way more important:

The coach, the team he is involved and how it's set up in terms of take advantage of the best traits of the particular player and finally the player's personal stuff, like adapting to a new country, sometimes even language, costumes, weather and not few times how to deal with personal issues, mental, financial, whatever.

PD: sometimes the price tag can add some not needed extra weight on some players, more if they have a slow start and some do not recover from that.

Trent has generally only struggled defensively either when he's dominated aerially or with the ball in behind that he doesn't track. In La Liga the only obvious candidate to really rinse him fortunately plays for Real Madrid themselves. Of course he's still not going to be a great defender there, and somebody skilful like Raphinha could for sure give him problems as he's quick and a very handy player, but I'd be surprised if Trent looks really out of his depth like he does from time to time in the Prem. Skilful but not particularly strong, tall or quick players are not the sort that generally make a mug of him.

If fotmob is reliable then 12 PL assists, 3 CL assists that season. Transfermarkt has him at 12 PL, 4 CL.
Incredible season for him. From that other source I didn’t see any season close to that except one with 9 assist but aerially he’s in the 1 percentile which is as bad as you can be. Clearly they want him for his passing and creation but for that reason i would play him higher up. Any chance VVD meets him there?

I think the better teams in La Liga are more tactically astute and will exploit his side. We have seen it happen so many times in big games. United got so much joy from it this very season, and Madrid themselves have a CL to their name that was his mistake in not tracking a runner.

I think there will be a few nightmare games at the wrong times, and in front of those fans, a few good passes won’t get him out of jail.
