Transgender rights discussion

Trump won me over when he talked about the Sex of humanity. Only two sex and that's male or female you're either that or you're mentally Ill.

Anyone who disagrees with that can get feck for all I care.
I know you've been ridiculed and laughed at a lot, and I acknowledge that that's grating and I would understand if you don't want to hear about this anymore. But if you're open to discussion about the subject, I would encourage you to read this article:

https://www.nature.com/articles/518288a

Nature is the world's leading scientific journal, along with Science (sorry, I can't help it, that's what these journals are called). So this is serious stuff, not some biased hack promoting their agenda. And you'll notice in the article that the subject of human sex is much more complex than just binary male/female. Apart from the rare cases of people being born with both or neither sets of genitals, there's a world of variety in people's biological setup.

Have a look and let me know what you think.

Thank you for sharing this. As someone not from the US and where this is not really a topic of discussion, it’s very interesting to read about the science behind gender spectrum / fluidity. But I’ll admit that was a very technically read and there’s much more to learn.

Society generally takes decades to catch up with science anyway. The one area which I’m unsure of is transgender women competing in women’s sport and especially gender related surgery on children who are not able to consent. Otherwise, the RW noise on the topic is grating and hate fuelled and sadly it’s working on a lot of people and hindering progress.

Surgeries on minors are extremely rare, and will be almost exclusively mastectomies. Surgeries for breast implants on minors are much more common, of course.

Thanks for posting this.
Do you have any book recommendation to delve deeper into the subject?
Maybe not academic textbooks but more pop science stuff

I don't, sorry! It's not a topic I follow in particular, I just follow Nature a bit.

Yeah, Nature isn't always the most accessible stuff.

It's true about society being slow catching up, but learning the facts as we currently know them is one way to help. :) I won't go into the sports thing though, there's already a whole thread of controversy on that topic! And it anyway doesn't change the reality of the diversity in biological sex.

I just can't wrap my mind around being so hell bent on dehumanizing a group of people you're willing to pass legislature to prove it.

Fecking cnuts.

Whatever happened to libertarian Republicans? I thought they didn't believe in controlling someone else's life.
I think that you will find that they very much want to control the life of everyone but object to any regulation if they don't agree with it. Hypocrites basically.

Well the hopes of his term being benign have already quickly started going out the window
Anyone who thought this time will be different or better is an absolute fkin moron in my book. But I feel like I'm stuck on repeat. Just about any of these videos he's posted is psychotic if you have but a shred of critical thinking skills.

This is a slippery slope towards a world where nothing matters anymore. If you don’t have the literal facts and logic then what’s the bloody point.

I'm not arguing that you shouldn't base your opinion on facts and arguments. But we have to accept that large parts of our society don't form their opinions this way. So we need to find ways to convince them.

There is a 90% chance someone on that attention seekers staff put that up.

Not exactly related, but:
I follow a couple of people who follow polls and obscure special elections in the US. Learnt recently that one of her staffers used to be part of that group and was a self-described liberal who wanted Dems to win at any cost, joined Mace's staff suddenly, without any apparent change in ideology, and now, about a year later, has been RTing the most inflammatory stuff.

I’m not at all shocked. The promise of, or proximity to, power can definitely reveal who actually believes what they say and who doesn’t.

Earlier this fall, Florida officials ordered transgender women in the state’s prisons to submit to breast exams. As part of a new policy for people with gender dysphoria, prison medical staff ranked the women’s breast size using a scale designed for adolescents. Those whose breasts were deemed big enough were allowed to keep their bras. Everyone else had to surrender theirs, along with anything else considered “female,” such as women’s underwear and toiletry items.

Under the new policy, the Department of Corrections stated that the prisons will only provide those with gender dysphoria with psychotherapy — and not cross-gender hormones — except “in rare instances … if necessary to comply with the U.S. Constitution or a court decision.” The policy argues that “unaddressed psychiatric issues and unaddressed childhood trauma could lead to a misdiagnosis of gender dysphoria,” and that cross-gender hormones “may be requested by persons experiencing short-termed delusions or beliefs which may later be changed and reversed.”

Matt Walsh went around asking owned lefties and cringe libs "what is a woman" and they were unable to answer!! Now, the based White House has given an answer!! A person belonging, at conception, to the sex that produced the large reproductive cell!!! A very useful definition for everyday life! After all, whenever I see a person, I am immediately measuring their germline cells in microns.

US joining the rest of the world on the """sensible"""" side of this debate.

i don't know if it was the UK or US, but there was a proposal to make "adulthood" in this context 25. basically making it as difficult and awful as possible.
Probably based on the development of the frontal lobe I would imagine. You’d think you’d know by 18 though.

Did the BMA ever release its report into the Cass review? I thought it was due at the end of 2024.

French gynaecologist suspended for refusing to treat trans woman
A French gynaecologist has been barred from practising for a month because he refused to examine a transgender patient on the grounds that he was only qualified to treat “real women”.
“I was only trying to be honest when I said it wasn’t my specialty and I wasn’t competent. I offered to refer her to services that could take better care of her,” he said.

Forgot about this story from my hometown.

https://www.bbc.co.uk/news/articles/cx2q8zzx0d7o

A nurse who was suspended after complaining about sharing a changing room with a transgender doctor has denied comparing the medic to a rapist.

Sandie Peggie claims that having to share the room with Dr Beth Upton - who is a trans woman - amounted to unlawful harassment under the Equality Act.

It heard that Ms Peggie had compared the doctor's decision to use the women's changing room in Victoria Hospital, Kirkcaldy, to controversy around "men being in women's prison".

It was determined that she was referring to the case of Isla Bryson, a transgender rapist who attacked two women while known as Adam Graham and was initially remanded to a women's prison.

During her second day of evidence, Ms Peggie claimed she was previously unaware that the Bryson case involved a rapist, and said: "I never compared Beth to being a rapist."

Jane Russell KC, the lawyer representing Dr Upton and NHS Fife, suggested that the comment fed into a narrative that trans women were predators.

Ms Peggie replied: "I was describing how women must feel with a man in a female prison and how they might feel awkward having a man in the prison with them."

Dr Upton has denied getting undressed during the exchange.

The tribunal heard a written account from another doctor who said Dr Upton appeared "extremely distressed" afterwards.

Ms Peggie's claim is disputed by NHS Fife, which has described the case as unnecessary and vexatious.

NHS guidance states that trans men and women are allowed to use the changing rooms that align with their gender identity.

From another article;

Ms Peggie said she had been left alone in the changing room with Dr Upton on Christmas Eve in 2023 after two other members of staff left.

"Beth started to undress and I tried to avoid looking at him and turned my head towards my locker," she told the tribunal.

"I told Beth I felt it was unacceptable that he was in the female changing area. I told him I was embarrassed and intimidated and I didn't think he should've been in there.

"Beth informed me that he had as much right to be there as I did. I told him that wasn't true and if I wanted to get changed in front of a man, I would have went to the male changing rooms."

The exact words exchanged has been disputed by both sides.
