Transfer Tweets - Summer 2017 | Keep it on topic

Does any media outlet actually source their own articles anymore? It seems every piece is just referencing another outlet.

Then you'll even find one outlet will reference another outlet that is referencing another outlet.

Then you can even get the coup de grâce when it goes full circle and the original source ends up referencing a source that ultimately leads a chain back to their own article.

The Morata saga works in our favour here. Real know we won't be messed around and will move on to other targets if we don't get our way, and they need rid of James.

Exactly. Offer £40m, take it or leave it.
Against weaker opposition this would be great;

...Herrera ... Pogba
Mkhi .. James .. Perisic
..........Lukaku

A 'deep in talks' article is so easy for a journo. If it happens, they look very credible but if it doesn't they can just play it off with 'talks broke down'.

Delaney knows feck all.

Sounds like a rumor within a rumor. Inception

Can't see how James will fit into our team, unless we go three at the back. With an assumed 4-3-3 formation and with Lukaku up top, Perisic would be a better fit, despite not being the sexier signing.

He could fit in the right-wing, besides #10. It just seems an eventual minor improvement on Mkhitaryan and Mata.

Presumably this would be in addition to Perisic?

Yeah, in a square peg in a round hole sort of way. Those two will do just fine for us so I'm hoping we're in for a more genuine winger.

I am hoping that we go 4-3-3 and buy a winger and a DM. Don't think we will sign more than four players but if we do then I suppose we can have an additional luxury player.
We need an attacking #8 or a box-to-box player more than a defensive #6 if we're going 4-3-3, basically someone who can also provide goals, more Nainggolan than Fabinho.

Perisic is a genuine winger, those 2 are not wingers and thats why we struggle to score goals at home because we don't have genuine width.

I think Perisic is crucial signing for Utd even though many fans want a higher profile name but Perisic is what Utd need.

James thrived in a 4-3-3 in 14/15. He could be an asset for us and not a square peg.

What's the point in that when we have Pogba?
For many reason, but one is: when all our other central midfielders provided the sum of 8 goals, and you're adding one to the formation, he better provide goals like Pogba does or more.

Personally, I think that Pogba - new DM - Herrera would work best.

"smokescreen" has overtaken "blessing in disguise" and "local lad" these days

But if we free up Pogba, I think he will score double figures next season.

I think that's a myth, the imprisonment of Pogba. Just look the show he put up for France in 4-4-2. And I hope Mourinho keeps him in a midfield two.

Well he will certainly have more defensive duties in a two man midfield using the 4-4-2 or 4-2-3-1 formation than he would in a three man midfield. He did well in one recent game for France against an England team that didn't play very well at all.

It's a borderline mania. In 1997 social media would have had a #FreeScholes campaign.

I'd pay substantially more for James than anyone else, he's excellent. Would complete the jigsaw, perfect age and still has time to improve, I'd happily break the bank for him.
I have to agree with you, loved him in the 2014 World Cup, to me he is brilliant.
We would have someone with something to prove and he will thrive here in my opinion.

The only thing that makes me think we are in for Rodriguez is the fact that we wanted Griezmann. They are both at their best when played behind the striker and Rodriguez might be the back up name for the #10 spot.
If José is looking to use a 4-2-3-1 system signing Rodriguez would make sense.

Did well, you say…

Ok, but it would mean dropping Mkhitaryan after just a season.

James would play the number 10 role and Pogba will play the number 8 role which is his best position, we are not getting James to play on the wing.

No? People were sayin Griezmann was going to play wide…

Why? Mkhitaryan would still be first choice on the right just like he was for most parts last season.
What about the winger we're trying to get? I think Mourinho's plan is still to play a forward on one of the wings, a playmaker closer to Lukaku, and a winger now.

Do you expect him to feature as our most advance midfielder, then?
Yes. I think we need the athleticism of Pogba in the middle of the pitch. That leaves out Ander for the DM which I know is not his best position. I believe that James would do much better job in the advanced midfielder role than pogba. I think this is where it's a good headache to have with squad rotation.

I wouldn't budge on James if he comes at the expense of Mata though.

First choice
Lukaku
Perisic Rodriguez Mkhitaryan
Herrera Pogba

Back up
Rashford
Martial Mata Lingard
Fellaini Periera

I think so too, he knows he's good enough to be a top level player as he showed under Ancelotti and with players like Pogba and Lukaku behind and in front of him he could be extremely important for us, he'd flourish IMO.
