Question remains. Were we really in for Morata or was it all just a smokescreen?

Would imagine he was an option. A striker was always guaranteed, Lukaku wasn't. Options had to be considered.

Ah. You more of a Matic fan?
Nope. Neither of them are good enough for me.
Matic is the better player, but hasn't really impressed lately and is too near 30 for the fee that Chelsea would want.

We need solid but dynamic I think for this role at a good age.

Could be. Well he didn't want to force a move and burn the bridges and we weren't going to agree to Madrid's extortion.

He'll end up in Chelsea eventually and Madrid will get what they wanted.

They were Just delaying needlessly and expecting a inflated 90 m price to force the hand trying to show that they have a position of strenght as always with perez but We were prepared to move on for a better deal overall elsewhere.

Lets see. They have other options as well.

Like?

They won't pay the money Torino is asking for Belotti that's for sure.

They will maybe get Llorente but doubt he'll be their main striker.

Apparently Conte had a hand in getting Morata to sign with Juventus even tho he (Conte) resigned shortly after.

There is a chance belotti would cost the same as morata, and his italian connections could be a factor. Then there is Abamyang too, As lukaku was their first choice conte would not have been looking for a hold up player type striker as they have pretty creative and direct wingers in hazard and Pedro so abamyang could be also one of that player who is desperate for big wages and also in the future could be lured to china which is chelsea's policy as well.

Then They could make peace with Costa again for a year as he would not be playing anyway for 6 months and atletico refusing to pay the money they are demanding. And Morata ofcourse for 90 m euros which would be direct replacement for a player like costa provided chelsea are willing to go that high.

Thanks god, though Im in doom and gloom mode with our activity so far. Last season we signed an exciting young centre back on the cusp (a United type signing), an ex-Fergie signing, an exciting player in Miki and a Larsson type free signing of grander proportions. Although I thought we needed a couple more signings it was a very good first window from Mourinho.

SO far this we have signed a centre back I have only seen once so cant comment too much but from what I read and have seen in clips he looks a typical Mourinho centre back, we are now about to sign a typical Mourinho striker (an ex signing even). We are mainly getting linked with team minded wide players and central midfielders.

Looks to me Mourinho is trying to put his stamp on the side. Though it may improve reulsts and tactical play, I am not sure it is a good thing, it could be turning us into a Mourinho project and further from a proper Manchester United side. I really hope there is an exciting wide player signed, as it is massively needed for me if we are going to compete for the biggest trophies and also to keep the United way. If we sign Perisic for example, I will be concerned I may be watching turgid, athletic football of good quality like Inter or Chelsea in red shirts.

Mourinho is a great manager and when he took over I thought if he can keep the philosophies and traditions of our club he will be a true legend. There hav ebeen signs here and there of him doing that....there have been more though of him trying to turn our side into a winning Mourinho one....concerned

So, what you want to say is Jose should abandon the team building way he used to do in all his previous clubs and acquire a new strategy for building a team ? It doesn't make any logic, sorry.

Conte, a Juventus legend. Torino Juve's city and bitter rivals, don't see that Italian connection here at all, especially considering Torino refused 70 million from AC Milan.

It all depends, having Costa as their hold-up striker worked really good last season, I'm inclined to think that that's exactly the type of player they will be looking for tbh, hence their interest in both Lukaku and Morata.

Market is currently very limited for a CF.

Either way we shall see but I reckon they might try to get Morata.
