Genuine question: How often has Mourinho ever played with two strikers up front together?

I would have thought Lukaku. Did Mourinho not buy him for Chelsea as a future Drogba replacement? Good powerful target man for your runners to play off. Martial, Miki and Rashford could have a field day running off his flick on's.

Just like they had a field day from Ibra's flick ones? ;)

Are Sevilla linked to replacements? Losing both N'Zonzi and Iborra in one window would be real heavy.

And also Vitolo to Atletico...

Yep, lots of rumours of different replacements. Already made Banega's comeback official and right now Sevilla are about to sign Guido Pizarro, an argentinian midfielder from Tigres. Jovetic has become hot again, now that Inter are preparing to bid 40 million euros on N'Zonzi. Muriel from Sampdoria, a loan of Nolito, a transfer of Jesus Navas, Jordan Amavi from Aston Villa, and so forth. As usual, we are about to get all the left overs and dissappointments from England, with the hope of re-awakening their careers, as they help the club to success:) Usually it works for us, but we'll see.

Well its worked out alright so far for your lot!

Sky sources: Sunderland are on the verge of a double-signing from Everton this afternoon. We understand defensive duo Brendan Galloway and Tyias Browning are currently on their way to Wearside to undergo medicals ahead of season-long loan deals.

In addition, Sunderland are close to agreeing a permanent deal for Everton winger Aiden McGeady, which would take the Everton arrivals to three.

However, the Republic of Ireland winger's move is less advanced than the other two, but Sunderland remain in advanced talks with Everton.

I think Lacazette at the quoted price is a much, much better deal than Morata for €70m odd. Don't think United wanted him though, as you could probably have blown Arsenal out of the water with both fee and wages.

I honestly don't agree, if he was that great, he'd have gone to a much bigger club before now.

Has he ever played as a support striker? Genuine question as I haven't seen him play this role at all. At Real, the reason Benzema gets preference is allegedly because Morata is a purer #9 and goes for goals as opposed to getting into positions that help Ronaldo get the goals. If so, that's not quite the definition of support striker, surely? As I said, this is not a sarcastic post or anything. Just curious as to what makes you say he'd be ideal for the support role in a 4-4-2 since neither his club nor his country play that formation from what I've seen.

He played as a SS when Tevez was at Juve. Good holdup play, decent dribbling and an ability to run the channels he's good at that. Pretty comfortable with the ball at his feet too. Reckon Mou would shift to 442 or 352 this season, maybe thats why he wanted Griezmann, to play the role of SS, Morata might be the alternative.

Let's just say I think it's beyond just unlikely. Can't see Jose shifting to 2 at the top with the squad we have. Just thinking about it boggles the mind.

Yeah he probably wont shift to 2 at the top, I was just trying to imagine how we'd go about if both Morata and Lukaku signed, which itself is highly unlikely

Well he must have some sort of plan for a SS because that's exactly what Griezmann is and it is widely believed he will move to United next summer.

20+ goals for three consecutive seasons in a defensive-minded ligue, and he's "only" 26 years old. Was wanted by a lot of clubs last Summer as well. I think he'll hit the ground running and easily top the 20-goal mark once again this season.

Yup. Neither our squad nor our reputed / rumoured targets suggest a shift to two up front. The formation just doesn't work with the players we have or are likely to buy. This is probably just posturing by Raiola or maybe even by United to get Real to do business quickly on Morata.

Agreed. It's quite surprising you guys didn't go for him too though. Thought he was a shoe in for Klopps style.

Occasionally at Inter maybe? And also in that disaster that was the attempt to fit Sheva in at Chelsea... Not exactly the most glittering track record to suggest he's in any rush to play 2 up top again...

Other than in the last 15 mins of a game his team is chasing I don't think Jose's ever played with two up top. Eto'o played on the wing at Inter with Milito leading the line.

If you guys play a 4-2-3-1 then Antoine would slot nicely into the number 10 role. Or if you went 4-3-3 he'd play on the left of the front 3. It's not hard to slot a versatile striker like Griezmann into a team.

Its an absurd amount of money but Morata and Lukaku upfront would be sexy as hell. Morata is perfect for the role of a supporting striker in a 442.

I would find Lukaku and Morata upfront ridiculous to be honest. Once in a while, yes but not as a first choice system.

Jose hardly ever players with two strikers anyway. When he does, he often moves one wide. Morata has a tendency and preference to drift wide while striking. He is a number nine in the Benzema mould in many ways.

If United gets both Morata and Lukaku, they will either have to be rotating the striking role or one of them will have to be drifting wide occasionally considering Jose's preferred systems of playing.

The bottomline is Rashford.

What does Jose want to do with Rashford? If we have both Morata and Lukaku and we still get Perisic (or Bale/Neymar if the wild rumours can ever become reality), then, in reality, Rashford's days at United are numbered. He will have to be shipped out on a loan or sold outrightly eventually because there is absolutely no way you will pay close to 200 million bucks for two top strikers and be benching them for a 19 year old kid who is still struggling to develop as a player.

Agreed. All of the big clubs have swerved Lacazette for a while now and there's a reason for this.
Happens in France now and again.

Evra seemed to be around for years in France before he moved to us at the age of 25 and I'm surprised there weren't any takers sooner.

Think Lacazette will do well. Wish we got him.

Why I don't like it or why it's inevitable/logical that Barcelona/fans/Bellerin want the player to return?

Ultimately, I don't like the fit/fee for the player we'd get. Much prefer Nelson Semedo, for example...else Cancelo or Hysaj.

It was why you didn't like it as a fan of the club which you answered. Cheers, because I was curious as to why Bellerin wasn't seen as a sure thing. :)

in this instance does Jose going to Castles saying we need deals done not strengthen the position of the selling club? Can understand his need to put pressure on but if its in the media then Perez and the likes are just going to say I'll sell to you today but you'll have to pay £80 million.

well...that's stating the bleeding obvious......

To be fair, he didn't say that he was breaking a news. He is just making a little comment on twitter.

I think all this pressure from Mourinho is weakening our negotiating position even further. If everyone knows he's going to kick off if we don't have players in by the end of the week, they can basically ask for a blank cheque

We should have alternate targets in place.

It's not like we are targetting world beaters in perisic morata that there can't be others available at that level.

We probably do, but although the club would ideally like players in in time for the start of preseason, its not actually the end of the world if they don't get them quite in time, so they probably shouldn't consider the fall backs for a while yet if they think they can still get the main target.

There is a big chance that Mourinho is perfectly relax and the press is trying to justify their numerous failed predictons by pretending that United and Mourinho are panicking.

Looking like Laca to Arsenal is imminent. As he was supposed to be Griezmann partner/replacement, Costa back to AM should be more than likely now. This should kickstart the market now. Lukaku to Chelsea, etc.

Yep. Wonder if we can get Griezmann in January also. That would be nice.

More Everton players...Moyes does like to stink out a club even when he is not there.

I couldn't see that happening, unless Costa and someone in his or Griez calibre brought in as well, the maybe United has a chance at getting Griez. In time before facing Spurs. :p
