Positionally yes they just play on opposite wings, but they are wingers and supposed to be their teams best attacking outlets and stats aren't same, salah has better nos in lesser matches.
Salah wasn't a winger last season. He spent most of his time playing off Dzeko, on the second best attacking team in the country.

i don't put much stock in BR, but something new i guess.

Considering he stood unopposed its hard to see how selling Morata would affect him. Ronaldo saying he wants out was surely a bigger issue and didn't change a thing.

Didn't he get re-elected unopposed? So why would he be worried about waiting for the election when it wasn't even a contest of any sort?

So liverpool are signing a guy who has played lesser games than perisic but has better nos than him and is 3 years younger for 40mn while we may have to pay 50mn for perisic.

Clubs seem to get into the 'rip 'em off' mode once they hear Manchester United.

Alves is probably going to go the Bravo of way. Finding himself defensively vulnerable and leading to a lot of goals. Stones would give him a run for the money if so though

Not sure. He's such a top player. I think he has proven he adapts very well. He did great at Seville moved to Barcelona and conquered the world with them. He changed country by moving to Juventus and again, he succeeded there. Nothing suggests he will not excel in the EPL.

Cold rainy nights in Stoke notwithstanding

There is a difference between being a RB at juve alongside Chiellini Barzagli and Bonucci and alongside Stones Otamendi and all.

Alves hasn't played in a league where he's had to do any defending for a decade. He'll improve their attack no doubt, suspect they'll still leaks goals for fun though.

You don't have to defend in Serie A? That's nonsense

Dani alves made to us made too much sense when he left Barcelona on a free. Same with Samir Khadira.

So they've let a couple of old full backs go and are using an older 34 year old as a replacement - smart.

Being 34 means feck all when you're still one of the best RBs in the world.

It's a good signing, but only a stop gap - stop gaps in defensive positions can be tricky, usually better off with building a solid unit going forward. A little bit of a cop out by Pep, no doubt it will work but he will still have to source again next summer more than likely

It's all about winning the Premier League now, especially for Pep who needs to win at all costs, as well as the fact that he never stays anywhere for long. Guardiola is someone who obviously will use the rest of his life living life around the world, he will not stay in Manchester for much longer than three years - he will not give a single shit about the development and aftermath. Alves is old, but his condition is excellent - and he is cheap, and he wins. All the same can be said of the younger Ronaldo, but he is not cheap.

Unless he resigns after winning the league, which would have made it all worthwhile. And then City go and buy the next big thing on the right, or an old gem. It's hard to downplay this possible signing, he can be great for them and unlike Maicon he has he right mentality.

I just have one question, if we were the one to sign Alves, were people here call this a short term plan from us and Jose's repeating what he did at Inter or not?

I think people would be happy with him. We all know there isn't a good enough option to challenge or rotate Valencia and we all know in a couple of seasons we'll have to splurge on a RB. So if getting him means <£10m fee + non astronomical wages to rotate with Valencia (who has about 3-4 seasons at most) or even overtake him for the near future, I personally, would be really happy about such signing. Short term fix, with a low transfer fee, just when we to step up on our feet.
However, the inevitable RB splurge will happen in this or one of the next 2 summer windows.

Depends on the circumstances. If City have an up and coming right back who needed time to develop, then it would be understandable. I dont believe City do though, they need a defensive overhaul from what I gather. Wonder what that means for their interest in Walker also, after a constant link. It's already a limited pool out there for defensive options. Acting now rather than putting it on the long finger - especially when City are pretty strong from midfield up already, just presume getting in lads for the longhaul as better.

Apparently. But that changes nothing about his class. Pep is getting him to improve the City back line. He will do that.
