Transfer Tweets - Summer 2017 | Keep it on topic

Haven't followed Keane at all, is he any better than when he left us.

He's got better with experience as you'd expect but for me he doesn't offer anything that Jones and Smalling currently do.. maybe more game time compared to Jones but for me that's about it. Would be a very meh signing for me.

Utd usurp Liverpool for a world class defender: Keane. Never change @Mister_Stubbs, never change.

If you read my comments regarding Michael Keane then you'd know I'm not his biggest fan and think we could find much better. That said, he'd still be turning you down for us which is kind of a joke on you surely?

I'm happy about Micheal Keane.

He will definitely improve with Mourinho and is English to boot, if we don't buy or keep the British/Irish players we will lose our identity.

City are the only big team who have made moves at the moment, plenty of time to do business yet.

It's either City is panic buying and will regret some of these hasty moves or their speed just shows that Pep put in a lot of work (long ago) into understanding the exact needs of the team and what we are seeing are a result of months of efforts into upgrading the team.

The last time a manager moved this quickly, he won the EPL. Yeah, I'm talking about the Manchester United manager.

The good thing about Keane is that he doesn't spend half the season out injured.

But Keane and Perisic? Very underwhelming. Won't strenghten us much (or at all). Dier is a fine player and would be a good addition, but he's not exactly a world beater either.

Hard to regret signing B.Silva!

Rose would be a great signing for United - minor concern over his injury record but he's probably the stand out LB in the PL.

We did 75% of transfer before preseason last season.

In an ideal world I'd want all our business done within the first few weeks of the transfer window but typically at this club we don't, even under Fergie. City still have key areas they need to improve, they of course might well do but come on we've got two months there or there abouts to bring the player we need in, it's no time to panic.

We can't be getting Keane and Lindelof surely. Looks like Ed would rather save £20m and go for Keane.

Very correct.

I like the idea of Keane actually. If we can get Rojo and Bailly fit, a back of Keane and Jones or Smalling won't be bad at all especially if we get a solid DM to provide cover for the back.

Keane is young, English and a United graduate. These are important benefits. Also, with him in, it will do us no harm to get rid of one of the other English players and replace them with much better players. Luke Shaw especially.

With Keane in, we'll be talking about the team having Pogba, Lingard, Rashford, Perreira, Keane, Tuanzebe and maybe Jose might bring in Josh into the first team. That's an impressive academy core.

Kieta also shrugged of rumours and now Tottenham maybe have beaten them to their top left back transfer target. Maybe they are serious for mendy, but surely cant match wages offered by us city or chelsea.

"Pull the plug on the deal" - is that scouse for "he didn't want to join us"?

Maybe that's the surprise Jose talked about etc etc

People need to calm down. They've signed one player. It makes no difference whether we sign someone today or in 20 days.

And that last line is meaningless considering the last manager to win the EPL famously wasn't able to get his first choice targets and had to make deadline day deals.

Don't get the Rose link, he has missed most of this season with an injury which is one of the reasons people don't think Luke Shaw will make it (who I happen to believe has a much higher ceiling than Danny Rose).

I was wondering too. Only thing is that if it is a straight swap, the two managers would have at least gotten rid of players giving them headache without reducing the number of English players in their squads.

In the football world, the patient dog is often the one that eats the most miserable bone. Mr. Wenger can explain this better. :)

And no, that last line is not meaningless. It is no co-incidence that managers who identify the problems in their teams early and quickly move to get the players who can solve the problems so that they can have full pre-seasons together, often have very good seasons.

I do agree with your advice though: people do need to calm down.

Happy with Keane. Quite like defenders who do the simple things well; defend and don't take risks. Van Dijk would be a dream signing - best in league alongside Alderweireld but fancies Chelsea.
Re two defenders? Why not? Can't rely on Smalling and Jones anymore. They've proved that in their time at club so why not replace them both plus, Rojo will be out till near Xmas.

It would be an excellent depth chart for our CB positions, not to mention Tuanzebe. The best defensive backups in the league.
