Transfer Tweets - Summer 2017 | Keep it on topic

It's not about a bigger name, atleast not for me. It's about buying the right players. Morata to me doesn't seem to fit that vacuum left by Zlatan. Especially if the Perisic rumours are true, Mourinho wants us to play a counter attacking brand of football. Auba would suit that perfectly. Not suggesting Morata is slow or anything, his acceleration is very good, but he's not at Auba's level. I would be thrilled if we got Aubemayang, but it's very unlikely to happen.

But that's my point - Morata IS faster than ibra, and he is no slouch. He is better at holding on to the ball, running the channels and bringing others into play than Auba too. See Jose's favourite strikers like Milito and Drogba, even Costa before they fell out - none of them are speed demons but have enough pace to get to the end of a counter attack. Our problem has also been teams who park the bus, and a striker in this mould would be better than one who relies mainly on pace. Thus, getting someone like Morata gives us a counter attacking option, while also providing great choicea against teams who sit deep.

If we are not offering him a contract, then surely we're super confident of signing 2 strikers.

Why would we need 2 strikers ? That is complete overkill given the fact that we also have Rashford and Martial who can play as a striker and given that Mourinho plays with only 1 striker that is more than enough.

Why would we be crazy to extend him a year knowing he'll be fit before the start of next year?

He was out top scorer last season and regardless of who we bring in (Morata or Belotti) one new striker and Rashford is not enough to compete for top honours.

Why is that not enough ?

2 good strikers for 1 position with Martial as a fallback option. In what world is that not good enough ?

I dont understand why people want Zlatan so bad, we struggled just as much with him up top and if he is in the team he would want to play all the time and Mourinho would let him. We are putting 70m Morata on the bench for him and ruin all chances Rashford has of ever playing uptop as a striker... seems like a very dumb idea to me.

If Zlatan goes, we replace him, no need to sign 2 players to replace him.

Surely if Rooney goes we will need to replace him as well.

He's one of the highest paid players in the world, and the team is going to pay him for sitting out several months? I won't be surprised if they tried to renegotiate his deal, but there's not a team in the world that's going to pay a 36 year-old that kind of salary for a half season.

They have already tried and failed miserably.

He's not going anywhere.

I doubt even 200 mil would get PSG to sell.
I meant if Veratti is willing to force a move, unless he's a secret Barca fan, I doubt he'd be willing to force it to Barca but not Madrid.

And what makes you so sure that Aubameyang will score 30 goals in England? Of course Pogba is a Jose player - why would he be willing to sanction a world record fee if he is not? Mkhi is a Jose player - he works his socks off and was always contributes defensively. This is something that I think Aubameyang lacks. What makes Aubemeyang world class and Morata not? Aubameyang has never expressed any desire to join us, and Jose does not know him personally like he does with Morata. Herrera and Mata were not bought by Jose, so yes, maybe they are not his kind of players, but both of them, Herrera in particular, have responded well to Jose and upped their game this season.

We can't just buy the players who score the most goals, or won the most tackles, or made the best saves - we need to buy the players that the manager feels he can work best with, and will help the TEAM best, over someone who on paper seems to be a better player BUT a worse fit. We know Jose wants Morata because we have BID for him, so let's trust Jose and let him get the players he wants.

Very solid point.

Yep. June 8th. Exactly one month until United fly to the US, so they'd better get a move on.
Lot of players are on international duty right now, so at the moment the only deals that are really going through are for players not with their national team - Ederson, Ricardo Rodriguez etc. Players like James and Morata are on duty.

Remember Tancredi and his #145 crap last summer over Pogba? Wouldn't trust him at all.

This posting needs way more love!

Morata has told he wants to stay in Real Madrid not once but twice, he will leave as soon as some other team comes knocking. The stats show that Aubameyang is a better player and he has pace which will be useful for Jose's counter attacking style. What makes you so sure that Morata will score 30 goals? He has scored 15 goals for Real in a less competitive league and 12 goals in Serie A. Teams defend better in the EPL than in La Liga. If Morata was that good he would have been starting instead of Benzema. If you Morata is good enough fine. Let's see how well he plays if we sign him.

Errrm, but the man who manages the team seems to prefer Morata.

I think that is what ultimately matters most.

Having said that, none of us is even really sure about those who are being seriously chased without much press coverage. Who knows? We might just her an announcement that Aubumeyang is about to be signed by United. :)

Why?

He might not be interested in Real but Barca. Like Neymar did for example.

Not all players want to play for Real.
I've already accounted for that...
