 Some of the posts here. De Gea had a year left on his contract and he wanted to leave. Even if we're "only" getting £18 million plus Navas, who isn't exactly a shit goalkeeper, what is the problem? Were we really meant to expect a world record fee for the guy?!

Damn that Fergie for retiring.

This window reinforces we need a director of football.

I suggest everybody takes a deep breath and just flow with the waves. This is a new era, an exciting one and the supporters should be full behind it.
Nah feck that I want to go into meltdown, I hope we sell Fergie to Villa next so I can start burning shirts

Media briefing onslaught is about to commence. The Spanish will want to make it look better for Madrid and The English same for Man Utd.

Hah, the English media have been sharpening their knives all day ready to lay in to United, we'll probably get fairer treatment from the spanish media than them!

To be fair 40m euros is fair, that's £29.2m even if it includes Navas (we need a keeper anyway).

Was listening to Talksport, but turned off as I didn't want to sit and listen to Mark Saggers and Stan Collymore banging on and on about English youngsters.

Just read 20 pages of this thread. Was gone for 3 hours or so. So we sold Hernandez loaned Adnan and may loan Wilson. The club isn't stupid. Surely there would be multiple incoming players

In response to the Ducker tweet, Real were desperately trying to offload Navas. Why would we accept their valuation for him if they wouldn't accept our valuation for de Gea?

Agreed. If what Balague says is true, this is an excellent deal for us. Both clubs and the players come out well

Let's bet on that, shall we?

De Gea was dignified throughout this whole ordeal, we weren't going to back down and be fecked over. Real Madrid tried all their usual dirty tactics with Marca and after all is said and done we've held on - in fact I'd argue that we've made Real Madrid panic buy if the numbers Balague is taking about are true (£29m plus Navas).

The British press won't see it that way, though.

Or he will. Crazy thought I know. Come good for us.

Yes that is a crazy thought, have you actually watched him? He can't cope with aerial threats at all, he flaps at everything that comes in high, he's not suited to the PL at all, it's just reality.

Agreed. Negative hysteria has now replaced the unabashed arrogance of 5 years ago as the proper way to conduct one's self on the Caf.

Navas's price, if he were to be up for sale independent of this deal, would have been 20M Euro minimum. So if United get even 25M Euro in cash plus Navas, to me it looks like 45M Euro worth for a player in last year of his contract. Not bad.

At this point I couldn't care less about the fee for DDG. While Woodward had the right intentions of standing up to Real the situation has panned out perfectly for them as we've got a want-away on our hands and they'll easily wait to pick him up for free next year. Should have just sorted it at the start off the window.

Cech wanted to stay in London. Ok. But for arguments sake we wouldn't have pursued him if we believed DDG would stay. Cech wouldn't sign to be a 2. If we sorted DDG maybe that would have given more flexibility to buy a replacement.

The reason we lose isn't because of the fee or the deal we're getting, it's because we left this the last two days of transfer window. We could have done this a lot earlier and gotten a proper GK replacement. Instead we'll have Keylor Navas & Sergio Romero for the whole season. All that posturing really didn't help us much in the end.
