 Some of the posts here. De Gea had a year left on his contract and he wanted to leave. Even if we're "only" getting £18 million plus Navas, who isn't exactly a shit goalkeeper, what is the problem? Were we really meant to expect a world record fee for the guy?!
It's more "fun" to mock the club, though.

We're getting around 17 million plus Navas, who I imagine would be worth at least 13 million. Around 30 million for a keeper with a year to go is fine.

At this point I couldn't care less about the fee for DDG. While Woodward had the right intentions of standing up to Real the situation has panned out perfectly for them as we've got a want-away on our hands and they'll easily wait to pick him up for free next year. Should have just sorted it at the start off the window.

Cech wanted to stay in London. Ok. But for arguments sake we wouldn't have pursued him if we believed DDG would stay. Cech wouldn't sign to be a 2. If we sorted DDG maybe that would have given more flexibility to buy a replacement.

We should have bought a replacement anyway. If not this season he was leaving the next.

Especially when Valdes was also leaving. But we brought in fecking Romero only.

The reason we lose isn't because of the fee or the deal we're getting, it's because we left this the last two days of transfer window. We could have done this a lot earlier and gotten a proper GK replacement. Instead we'll have Keylor Navas & Sergio Romero for the whole season. All that posturing really didn't help us much in the end.

Its not up to us for that though, the reason this wasn't done earlier is because Real have left it to the last two days of the transfer window to bid. We can't force them to bid

Real Madrid's games are on every week on Sky Sports and I watch them all, plus I saw him in the World Cup, so count how many games that is and that is how often I saw him over the last year.

Romero is crap but Navas isn't the answer.
Madrid fans here watched him and I believe them he's good. And from what I've seen I think he'll be good also.
You don't rate him, said that in several posts, fair enough.

I think what we get for De gea has to be also equated with the fact that Navas is a good keeper and any keeper of his level in the market for Manchester United would cost A LOT, so overall financially it's a great deal for us

The window is what it feels like to have bipolar. Good, bad, good, bad.
One thing it is that it is a head feck

Would a gk of the quality needed sign without guarentees of being first choice which will only come with the sale of DDG. Which we wanted to prevent from happening.

Exactly it is Real who have messed about here, not us. The only option then would be to hold onto him and then have a goalie who would sign a pre-contract with Madrid in January. Ronaldo stayed on for that extra year, but he had renewed his contract and also had loads of respect for Fergie. Not sure DDG would put the same effort, his relationship with LvG might not be on the same footing.

It feels like we are placing our players on a medieval catapult today.

Selling Hernandez and loaning Wilson is great news because it means we're definitely getting someone better, possibly 2 players. Not sure about Januzaj who I thought should be a cover for Mata on the right.

Maths isn't Ducker's strong point it seems. Still gets confused with with pound - euro exchange rates. He still thinks we spent £30m+ on Anderson.

Balague saying the deal is E25m + Navas valued at E15M isn't he?

It's probably 7.3 rising couple of more millions depending on performance clauses.

Seems West ham were paying more but he wanted Leverkusen.

So you believe them not me, fair enough. However why not use context? I said he has superb reflexes and makes flashy saves, that's great. However you and them are not looking at the actual huge differences between the PL and La Liga, it's a simple case of him not having the right skill set for this league and at nearly 29 he isn't suddenly going to develop them.

How the feck do Real win here? It's an excellent deal for us.

It is a decent deal for us when you consider that we are getting 25 mil for a keeper with only one year left on his deal, who doesn't want to be here. We're also getting Navas. That said, Real Madrid are basically letting us take Navas off their hands, and getting De Gea in return for only 25 mil - if he had 5 years left on his deal, he would be worth several times that. They have their GK department sorted for the next 10/15 years.
